Cineca HPC Annual Report continues our commitment to offer data and information about our effort and impact in High Performance Computing on the scientific community and to share with all our stakeholders our vision and perspectives of development.
In these reports we go on in providing an overall panorama of our activities and of the research outcomes obtained by means of the access to our supercomputing infrastructure both at national and at European level; at the same time we provide an assessment about our intangible assets which, beyond the metric of the consolidated indexes of performance, represents the goodwill value of our mission.. The report contains in-depth sections on many of the actions referred to, providing summarized synthetic data that highlight the relevance of our role and the responsibility of constituting the keystone of an ecosystem at different levels— European, National, and territorial—where advanced research, technological innovation, and socio-economic development converge and progress.
the previous annual report summarizing the activities of the Cineca HPC department for the
2020-21 period focused on the united response of the scientific community to the COVID
pandemic. A year later, the focus has shifted to the intense work that is facing us as early
as the next twelve months to enhance the economic resources that have been mobilized
with the Next Generation Europe action to recover from the effects of the pandemic and
to support the priorities shared by the Member States of the European Union and by the
international community.
In particular, we need to confront the ecological and energy transitions necessary to mitigate
climate change, especially development sustainability and digital innovation.

The 2020-2021 Cineca HPC Annual Report is available. The commitment to offer data and information about the role of Cineca's HPC activity and on the impact of high-performance computing on the national and international scientific community continues, as well as the commitment to share our vision and development prospects with all our stakeholders.
We continue to provide a general overview of the research activities and results obtained through access to the national supercomputing infrastructure and at the same time we also share the value of the projects and activities pursued, beyond the consolidated performance indexes.

CINECA for HCP and e-infrastructures infrastructuresCineca
Sanzio Bassini. Head of the HPC Department of Cineca. Cineca is the technological partner of the Ministry of Education, and takes part in the Italian commitment for the development of e-infrastrcuture in Italy and in Europe for HCP and HCP technologies; scientific data repository and management, cloud computing for industries and Public administration, for the development of computing intensive and data intensive methods for science and engineering
Cineca offers a unique offer for: open access of integrated tier0 and tier1 HCP national infrastructure; of education and training activities under the umbrella of PRACE Training
advanced center action; integrated help desk and scale up process for HCP users support
Cineca was founded in 1969, by the intuition of the Ministry of Education and the Rectors four universities, with the aim of "promoting the use of advanced computer systems information for scientific research and technology, public and private". Since then, the Consortium has expanded its range of activities to all the major areas of ICT, becoming a reference point for the national academic system, the public administration and the enterprises. In this monograph, we retrace the first forty years of activity of Cineca: the task of telling how computing has profoundly influenced the decades ranging from post war to nowadays has been given to four protagonists of the history of science and technology of our country, who have outlined a context in constant evolution and rich of opportunities. The second part of the monograph is dedicated to the history of Cineca: milestones, described by President prof. Mario Rinaldi, and prospectives, drawn by Director Dr. Marco Lanzarini highlight the key role played by the Consortium in technological innovation in Italy.

La nascita del CINECA
Fine anni '60:
Esigenza di disporre di computer potenti
per il calcolo scientifico.
Investimenti inattuabili per una singola
università:
- costo
- struttura di supporto
1969:
- Bologna, Padova, Firenze, Venezia

disco o i nastri magnetici
