2. Objective of Lesson
1. To alert us to snares of the devil.
2. To show the sin of idolatry and what it robs us of.

3. Colossians 2:4
• Enticing words—plausible, but false, speech resulting from
the use of well-constructed arguments or speeches.
• Psalm 19:7—The law of the LORD is perfect, converting
the soul; the testimony of the of the LORD is sure, making
wise the simple.

4. Colossians 2:8
• Spoil, Rob, take captive, plunder taken from an enemy
in war (Gk. Sylagogeo)
• Who make a prey of you— the word prey properly
signifies, one who carries off any thing as spoil. To strip
the vanquished (defeated) of their arms and clothes. It is
applied to robbers and thieves who drive away the cattle
they have taken.
• The goods of the Colossians are not said to be taken
away, but their minds are!

5. What the Colossians faced
• They were surrounded by people who believed in many
gods. The Colossians faced mystical polytheism, which is
a fascination with many gods.
• Hermes (money)
• Apollo (music)
• Aphrodite (intimacy)

6. What we face
• Our children are taught evolution at school, not as a theory
but as a fact. Ref. Deuteronomy 6
• We have many friends who like the Romans have a zeal
for God, but not according to His righteousness (Romans
10)
• We too have the temptation to just be quiet and not speak
up for truth. As a result many will be led astray.
