Watch and Pray
1. Mark 13:33-37
Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye
know not when the time is. 34 For the
Son of Man is as a man taking a far
journey, who left his house, and gave
authority to his servants, and to every
man his work, and commanded the
porter to watch.
2. 35 Watch ye therefore: for ye know
not when the master of the house
cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at
the cockcrowing, or in the morning:
36 Lest coming suddenly he find you
sleeping. 37 And what I say unto you I
say unto all, Watch.
4. The Jerusalem temple was built by the
Herodian dynasty to win Jewish favour and to
create a lasting Herodian monument. It was
considered an architectural wonder of the
ancient world. It was built with large stones,
polished and generously decorated with gold.
To the Jews nothing was as magnificent and
formidable as their temple.
5. “There shall not be left one stone upon
another, that shall not be thrown down”
“when shall these things be? and what shall be
the sign when all these things shall be fulfilled?”
6. a) He tells of a man who owns a large estate and is
going to take a journey to a far country.
b) He gives certain tasks and responsibility to his
servants and the porter.
c) He makes it clear what he expects to take place
in his absence.
d) He warns them that he could return at any
e) moment and they will not know the hour of his
arrival.
7. Acts 1:10-11
10 And while they looked steadfastly toward
heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood
by them in white apparel;
11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why
stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same
Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven,
shall so come in like manner as ye have seen
him go into heaven.
14. Matthew 25:14-15
14 For the kingdom of heaven is as a man
travelling into a far country, who called his own
servants, and delivered unto them his goods.
15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another
two, and to another one; to every man
according to his several ability; and
straightway took his journey.
15. The Lord does not expect you to be
successful on your own.
But when you come to that place of
obedience and full surrender, the
things that He can accomplish
through you are Unlimited.
17. Jesus is our Master and we must obey His
Command.
“Instant obedience is the only kind of
obedience there is; delayed obedience is
disobedience.”
-Thomas A Kampis
19. Vs.35 Watch ye therefore: for ye
know not when the master of the
house cometh, at even, or at
midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in
the morning:
36 Lest coming suddenly he find you
sleeping.
20. The servants are all responsible to
keep watch, to be alert to spiritual
dangers and opportunities because
no one knows when the owner of
the house will return.
21. Such watchfulness is the responsibility
not only of the twelve Apostles but also
of every believer in every generation
during this present age.
Believers should be watching and working
in light of the certainty of His return.
24. Biblical stewardship is one of the primary
ways Christ calls us to live our life.
It’s a theme in the Bible you can trace from
Genesis to Revelation.
It’s a calling rooted in creation, highlighted
throughout the Bible, and influences the
way you live your life for the glory of God.
25. Stewardship is another way of talking
about how you live your life.
In the New Testament books the word
steward means, the manager of a
household.
In general, to steward is to manage
something on someone’s behalf.
26. Stewardship in the Bible has to do with
understanding that your life is not your
own.
Your life is on loan from God and God
calls you to steward everything about
your life for his glory and the good of
others.
27. Colossians 1:16
For by him were all things created, that
are in heaven and that are in earth visible
and invisible, whether they be thrones, or
dominions, or principalities, or powers:
all things were created by him and for
him.
28. Everything we have belongs to the
Lord.
He has entrusted us with the task of
managing or being good stewards of
all that is at our disposal.
30. Ephesians 5:15-16
15 See then that ye walk
circumspectly, not as fools, but as
wise,
16 Redeeming the time, because
the days are evil.
31. Believers are to walk (live) carefully, so as
to be wise or skilful, making the right use
of every opportunity.
Believers must make full use of their time
to help turn sinners from darkness to
light.
34. Who is the Lord of your life?
How do you know if God is the
Lord of your life?
35. a. Do you desire to seek the Lord?
b. Do you long to read the Bible?
c. Do you want to participate in the life of a local
church?
d. Do you follow the Lord as he has revealed
himself in the Bible?
e. Do you work as if you are working for the Lord?
f. Does your checking account reflect Christ’s call
on your life as a steward?
37. 2 Corinthians 5:10
For we must all appear before the
judgment seat of Christ; that every
one may receive the things done in
his body, according to that he hath
done, whether it be good or bad.
