Obesity
Childhood obesity is a national epidemic. In
America, there are over 17% of children
that are overweight or obese. (2) This
affects 12.7 million children and
adolescents which is 1 in 3 children.
Modifications in dietary intake will assist
to prevent diseases. There is so much we
can do to prevent obesity in children.
Keep Moving
Benefits of physical activity: (4)
 Lowers blood cholesterol levels
 Helps prevent diseases
 Helps with weight loss
 Helps with well-being
 Keeps bones strong
 Better sleep and mood
 Improves skin
 Improves concentration
 Prevention of depression
Create a healthy
environment
 Limit time in front of the TV or
playing video games
 Have fresh fruit and vegetables on
hand
 Limit junk foods
 Keep active with your children daily
 Say words like “Healthy Choices”
 Keep a positive environment
 Incorporate superfoods in daily meals
