Child Care Safety in SACC
Tornado and Fire Drills
• A tornado drill and a fire drill must take place
once a month during child care hours.
• This prepares the children to know what to do
and where to go in the event of a tornado or fire.
CPR and First Aid Certification
• All SACC employees must become certified in
CPR and First Aid!
• Certification classes will be offered to all
employees throughout the school year.
First Aid (Basics)
• Children will likely experience a few cuts and
scrapes during their playtime.
• You should treat a basic cut or scrap by:
 First cleaning it with soap and water.
Next, applying a band aid over the wound.
First Aid (Basics)
• When accidents involve bumps and bruises, a
small bag of ice should immediately be placed on
the hurt area to prevent swelling.
• This is especially true for head injuries, which
should be monitored closely for any signs of
concussion.
Ouch Reports
• All injuries that take place during SACC hours
must be documented with an “Ouch Report.”
Poison Control
• SACC employees must contact the poison
control center in the event that a child comes in
contact with or swallows a poisonous substance.
Child Abuse
• It is your responsibility as a Child Care
Employee to report any signs of child abuse.
• Anonymous reports can be made through the
Child Protective Cervices Hotline:
1-855-209-4226
(For school personnel only)
