This document summarizes 7 new datasets released by the City of Chicago related to traffic congestion, environmental permits and inspections, recycling zones and drop-off locations, liquor licenses, and abandoned vehicle complaints. The datasets were released by Mayor Rahm Emanuel's Office and are available on the city's open data portal. Chicago Traffic Tracker: Measuring traffic on Chicago’s arterial streets
The Chicago Traffic Tracker estimates traffic congestion on Chicago’s arterial streets
(non-freeway streets) in real-time by continuously monitoring and analyzing GPS traces
received from Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) buses. Congestion estimates are
produced every ten minutes to measure the current estimated speed for about 1250
segments covering 300 miles of arterial roads.

Environment: Permits, Inspections, Complaints, and Enforcement
A series of eight datasets will enable residents to determine whether any
environmental records – complaints, storage tanks, demolition notices, holds,
inspections, permits, etc. – exist for a given address.

Blue Cart Recycling zones and drop-off locations
The Blue Cart Residential Recycling program provides bi-weekly curbside recycling
services to over 240,000 Chicago households. Two new maps on the data portal provide
information about recycling zones and locations where residents can drop off recycling.

Liquor moratorium districts and dry precincts
Three new maps display the boundaries of precincts in Chicago voted “dry” through a
local option referendum, as well as the locations of liquor moratorium districts
established by the City Council.
