Chess boxing is a hybrid sport that combines chess and boxing, with rounds alternating between a 4-minute chess match and a 3-minute boxing round. The sport was conceived in 1992 but was organized into an official competition by Iepe Rubingh in 2003 under the World Chess Boxing Organization. The first WCBO world championship was held in Amsterdam in 2003 and was won by Iepe Rubingh.
