2. History
Cheenta was founded by Dr. Ashani Dasgupta in 2010. It started as a training
center for mathematical olympiads. In the following years, alumni of Cheenta
began reconnecting with the organization as trainers. Hundreds of students
from all around the world joined the space. Several kids went on to do really
well at national and international level olympiads in India, the United States
of America, UK, Australia, Singapore and many other countries. At the
moment Cheenta students are in leading universities of the world such as
MIT, Harvard, Oxford, UCLA, IISc, TIFR, ISI, and CMI.
Presently Cheenta delivers mathematics, physics and computer science
olympiad courses at school level, statistics and mathematics courses at
college level and research projects starting from school moving upto
university standards. As of 2022, we have about 430 active students, 41
members in the faculty and administrative team and thousands of alumni all
around the globe.
Organizational Goal
Cheenta wants to emerge as a private research organization that uses
'research' both as means and end of academic endeavor. We want to employ
scientific method and research problems as teaching tools at pre-college
level and promote innovatation in the post-college domain. We consider
Olympiad training as means to attract and train students who will participate
in this research activity.
Another objective of Cheenta is to promote mathematical sciences in the
society, particularly in the under-previleged sections of India. This may
include identification and nurturing of talent, publication, video content and
other aligned activities.

3. Academic Programs
Mathematics
Physics
Computer Science
Statistics
Cheenta presently has four departments:
Each department has its own set of academic programs, research projects,
seminar series and content creation activities. Additionally the departments
often pull resources to offer consulting services and collaborative programs to
businesses, schools and other organizations.

Math Circle
Cheenta is actively engaged in identification and nurturing of talent in
mathematical sciences from rural and underprivileged sections of society,
particularly in India. The Math Circle program, presently active in Sundarbans
and Purulia region of West Bengal, is designed to serve this purpose.
The concept of Math circles
originated in eastern Europe at
the turn of 20th century.
These are groups of 6 to 7
students from rural schools.
The group also consists
students who are currently
taking Cheenta programs.
Math circles meet online once
every 10 days. A coordinator
from Cheenta and from local
school also participate in the
circle meetings.
Each math circle discusses non-
routine problems with minimal
coordinator intervention.
The problem sets are designed by
Cheenta. Student leaders usually
write diaries explaining the
experience after each session.
The students brainstorm ideas and
strategies to solve the problems
together.
The process also works as a training
program for participating teachers.
These teachers are offered stipends
as a token of appreciation.
4. Bose Olympiad
Since 2019, Cheenta has conducted the Bose Olympiad for school students. It
is a unique contest in mathematics that incorporates non-routine problem
solving and research.
In the initial rounds, students compete with each other individually and in
teams to solve interesting problems. In the final round, the qualified
candidates are invited to submit interesting research projects.
The contest also serves as an internal exercise to create interesting problems
of math olympiad calibre.

Publication, Videos
Cheenta has multiple youtube channels and a magazine on mathematical
sciences. As of 2022, we are planning a peer-reviewed journal for pre-college
level research in mathematical sciences.
Cheenta main youtube channel has
770 videos and 9300 subscribers.
Cheenta school of statistics and
data science has a separate
youtube channel with 230 videos
and 2800 subscribers
Reason, Debate and Story is a
magazine on Mathematical Science
published by Cheenta
Cheenta website has 1875 articles
with a monthly readership of
60000.
Ekalavya Work Study
For students’ whose the monthly family income is below Rs. 18,000, we have
the Cheenta work study Ekalavya program. Participants in this program pays
₹0 as tuition fee and works 4 hours per week as teaching assistants. We want
to bring in more bright minds to beautiful mathematical sciences using this
project.
5. Department of Mathematics
