Summary

3. Summary
◦ "How many children are there left now?"
asks Mr. Wonka. He pretends to be
surprised when Grandpa Joe tells him
Charlie is the only one. Then he bursts
out excitedly, "That means you've won!"
He pumps Charlie's hand furiously,
exclaiming over and over how delighted
he is. But now, he adds, they must really
hurry. "Just think of the arrangements
that have to be made!"

4. Summary
◦ He tells Charlie and Grandpa
Joe to jump in the elevator.
Then he presses the "UP AND
OUT" button, and the elevator
shoots straight up ... and up ...
until it finally crashes through
the factory roof and rises into
the sky like a rocket.

that stops the elevator in
mid-air. As he's explaining
that the elevator runs on

The Other Children Go Home

◦ Mr. Wonka insists on lowering the
elevator so they can see the other
contestants and their parents. He points
to a row of gigantic vans and says that
they're filled with the first installment of
the other contestants' lifetime supply of
candy. The three people in the elevator
watch as a much thinner Augustus Gloop
and his parents get into the first truck. Mr.
Wonka explains that of course Augustus
is thin now: he was squeezed in the pipe.

8. Summary
◦ Violet Beauregarde and her parents are
next. She's back to her normal size, but
she's still purplish-blue all over. "There's
nothing we can do about that," says Mr.
Wonka.

9. Summary
◦ Veruca Salt and her parents are covered
with garbage. Mike Teavee is 10 feet tall;
the Oompa-Loompas must have
overstretched him on the gum-
stretching machine.

10. Summary
◦ "It is time we left these four silly
children," says Mr. Wonka. There's
something very important he needs to
talk to Charlie about. He presses an
elevator button, and the glass elevator
climbs back into the sky.

11. Chapter 30 :
Charlie's Chocolate Factory

◦ As the glass elevator
hovers over the town, Mr.
Wonka comments that he
loves his chocolate factory.
Then he turns to Charlie
and asks, "Do you love it,
too?"

13. Summary
◦ When Charlie bursts out that he thinks
the factory is the most wonderful place
in the world, Mr. Wonka smiles. He's
glad to hear it, he says, because he has
decided to give Charlie the whole
factory. As soon as Charlie's old enough,
the business will become his.

14. Summary
◦ He goes on to say that thousands of people would
love the chance to take over, but he doesn't want
an adult for the job. "A grownup won't listen to
me; he won't learn." He's sure Charlie will pay
attention to him.

15. Summary
◦ Now it's time to fetch the rest of
Charlie's family. They can all live in the
factory and help run it until Charlie's old
enough.

16. Summary
◦ Charlie points, and a few minutes later the elevator crashes through
the Buckets' roof.
◦ In the resulting chaos Charlie and Grandpa Joe try to explain what's
going to happen. Explaining doesn't help; the three other old
people refuse to go. So Charlie, Grandpa Joe, and Mr. Wonka simply
push the bed into the elevator, push the Buckets in after them, and
get in themselves. Mr. Wonka presses a button for home.

17. Summary
◦Abruptly, Grandma
Josephine asks if there
will be anything to eat
where they're going.
"Anything to eat?"
Charlie echoes. "Oh, you
just wait and see!"
