They supported several of the strategic framework's goals, including identifying best practices and tools for treating individuals with multiple chronic conditions, enhancing health professionals' training, and facilitating self-care management programs which have been effective for other chronic conditions like mental illnesses and substance use disorders. Community behavioral health organizations are well positioned to coordinate care for those with multiple chronic conditions.
Elemental Issue 2
The Mental Health and Physical Activity Research Centre (MPARC) at the University of Toronto focuses on the connection between physical activity and mental health. A flagship program called MoveU.HappyU refers students waiting for mental health services to exercise sessions, which have helped reduce anxiety and depression symptoms. MPARC also educates students in Kinesiology on working with those with mental illness and integrates mental health into the curriculum. Initiatives aim to reduce stigma and promote physical activity for mental wellbeing across campus.
2014 Annual Report JFCS of Greater Phoenix

The Ella Faye Childs Memorial Program aims to prevent suicide among the elderly by partnering with nursing homes in Denton County, Texas that have deficiencies related to elderly mental healthcare and quality of life according to Medicare reports. The program will provide training to nursing home staff to increase quality of care and implement a 12-month prevention program with mental health services and counseling. Goals are to improve the quality of care provided by staff, increase staff competence, and decrease elderly suicide risk factors like depression and isolation among residents. The program will be piloted over 14 months in two cycles to collect outcome data and demonstrate effectiveness with the goal of expanding statewide.

This regional needs assessment summarizes data on substance use and related factors for Region 8 in Texas. Key findings include that over one-third of the population speaks a language other than English at home, poverty and unemployment rates are higher than national averages in many counties, and high school dropout rates exceed state rates in nearly a third of the region. Substance use of alcohol, tobacco, marijuana and prescription drugs is analyzed alongside consequences like crimes, family violence, and child abuse rates which in many cases exceed state levels. Gaps in services, data and partnerships to address substance misuse in the region are also discussed.

Report card on physical activity jpah
The document summarizes the results of Colombia's 2014 Report Card on Physical Activity for Children and Youth. It received grades ranging from 1 to 4 for 12 different physical activity indicators. National policy and obesity received grades of 4, while departmental policy, overweight, and time spent in sedentary behaviors received grades of 3 or 2. Overall physical activity levels, sports participation, and school influence received grades of 2 or 1. Active transportation, active play, cardiorespiratory fitness, and family/community influence received incomplete grades due to lack of data. The results show that physical activity levels are low and sedentary behaviors are high in Colombian youth. While obesity rates are lower than other Latin American countries, they are increasing.

Efforts to improve public health occur around the world every day. However, simply attempting to fix a problem without acknowledging, and respecting, the relationship between culture and health is not likely to have long-term success. Successful interventions, such as those in the case studies presented in your resources, demonstrate organizational collaboration. They also highlight the value of cultural relativism to improve population health outcomes. Working for the people (and with the people) can make an important impact on health.

Around the world professionals from numerous organizations rely on others to achieve their public health goals. This chapter stresses global cooperation, partnerships and collaborations vital to addressing health issues

For this discussion, I will access the overall health and identify key issues in Garland County, Arkansas. According to County Health Rankings of 2017, in the area of health outcomes Garland County, Arkansas ranked 44 out of 75 counties. When reviewing national and state results, Arkansas exceeded the U.S. median in all categories of health outcomes. For the health factors summary, they ranked much lower coming in at 28. In the category of health behaviors, 25% of adult Arkansans are smokers and 34% are obese. Both of these percentages are above national averages. Referring back to the topic of my previous discussion, the number of diagnosed sexually transmitted diseases was almost twice as many as the national average and the teen birth rate almost doubled the national average. In the category of clinical care Arkansas is near equal or slightly lower than national averages. Social and economic factors also rank fairly close to the national averages. Overall physical environment factors are no different than the national averages. In my opinion, Arkansas is a fairly clean and comfortable place to live.
After considering these statistics, I can answer the opening question of this discussion. "How healthy is your community?" Not very! As a health ...

The document summarizes findings from Phase 2 of the California Reducing Disparities Project (CRDP) statewide evaluation. Key findings include:
1) Community-defined evidence programs (CDEPs) served diverse priority populations across California and increased access to mental health services. Baseline data showed many participants had existing mental health needs.
2) Statistical modeling found CDEPs were effective in preventing and reducing severity of mental health conditions. A cost-benefit analysis found $5 returned for every $1 invested in CRDP.
3) Both adult and youth participants showed improvements in psychological distress, with many maintaining or reducing distress levels after receiving CDEP services. This provides evidence that CDEPs were effective for

The Ella Faye Childs Memorial Program aims to prevent suicide among the elderly by partnering with nursing homes in Denton County, Texas that have deficiencies related to elderly mental healthcare and quality of life according to Medicare reports. The program will provide training to nursing home staff to increase quality of care and implement a 12-month prevention program with mental health services and counseling. Goals are to improve the quality of care provided by staff, increase staff competence, and decrease elderly suicide risk factors like depression and isolation among residents. The program will be piloted over 14 months in two cycles to collect outcome data and demonstrate effectiveness with the goal of expanding statewide.

This regional needs assessment summarizes data on substance use and related factors for Region 8 in Texas. Key findings include that over one-third of the population speaks a language other than English at home, poverty and unemployment rates are higher than national averages in many counties, and high school dropout rates exceed state rates in nearly a third of the region. Substance use of alcohol, tobacco, marijuana and prescription drugs is analyzed alongside consequences like crimes, family violence, and child abuse rates which in many cases exceed state levels. Gaps in services, data and partnerships to address substance misuse in the region are also discussed.

Report card on physical activity jpah
The document summarizes the results of Colombia's 2014 Report Card on Physical Activity for Children and Youth. It received grades ranging from 1 to 4 for 12 different physical activity indicators. National policy and obesity received grades of 4, while departmental policy, overweight, and time spent in sedentary behaviors received grades of 3 or 2. Overall physical activity levels, sports participation, and school influence received grades of 2 or 1. Active transportation, active play, cardiorespiratory fitness, and family/community influence received incomplete grades due to lack of data. The results show that physical activity levels are low and sedentary behaviors are high in Colombian youth. While obesity rates are lower than other Latin American countries, they are increasing.

Efforts to improve public health occur around the world every day. However, simply attempting to fix a problem without acknowledging, and respecting, the relationship between culture and health is not likely to have long-term success. Successful interventions, such as those in the case studies presented in your resources, demonstrate organizational collaboration. They also highlight the value of cultural relativism to improve population health outcomes. Working for the people (and with the people) can make an important impact on health.
To prepare for this Discussion, review Chapter 2, "Communities Working to Achieve Health Equity," in the Promoting Health Equity document from Week 2. Select one case study to profile in your discussion. How do the key concepts, addressed in this week's Learning Resources, relate to the case study you selected?
1. Briefly describe the population and health issue addressed in the case study.
2. In what way did cultural beliefs and behaviors contribute to the health issue in these case studies?
3. Which public health (or other) groups intervened, and how did they cooperate to improve health for this population?
4. What measures did the organization take to ensure they respected the dignity of the individuals and their culture?
5. How does this case study relate to our class resources addressing culture and collaboration?

Around the world professionals from numerous organizations rely on others to achieve their public health goals. This chapter stresses global cooperation, partnerships and collaborations vital to addressing health issues

For this discussion, I will access the overall health and identify key issues in Garland County, Arkansas. According to County Health Rankings of 2017, in the area of health outcomes Garland County, Arkansas ranked 44 out of 75 counties. When reviewing national and state results, Arkansas exceeded the U.S. median in all categories of health outcomes. For the health factors summary, they ranked much lower coming in at 28. In the category of health behaviors, 25% of adult Arkansans are smokers and 34% are obese. Both of these percentages are above national averages. Referring back to the topic of my previous discussion, the number of diagnosed sexually transmitted diseases was almost twice as many as the national average and the teen birth rate almost doubled the national average. In the category of clinical care Arkansas is near equal or slightly lower than national averages. Social and economic factors also rank fairly close to the national averages. Overall physical environment factors are no different than the national averages. In my opinion, Arkansas is a fairly clean and comfortable place to live.
