Characteristics of Living Things (50 points)
Living things share 8 characteristics (listed in Chapter 1 of your textbook on page 19). A living thing grows, undergoes metabolism, responds to its environment, reproduces, passes DNA to the next generation, maintains homeostasis, changes over time, and is made up of cells. A non-living thing may seem to do one or more of these things, but to be classified as living; all eight characteristics must be present. Sometimes, you may see something that seems alive but is not. Though you can’t see it, you have likely experienced it; one of those things is a virus.
Answer BOTH of the following questions:
1. Using all 8 of the characteristics that define life, indicate which one(s) viruses have and which one(s) they do not, and explain each difference.
2. With these results, present an argument that a virus is a living thing. Then, present the opposite argument that viruses are not alive.
You can fill out a table like this (though this is not required):
Characteristic
Virus
(yes, no, maybe, sort of)
Explanation
Reproduce
Pass along their traits through DNA
Consume energy sources and expel waste products to maintain homeostasis
Respond to their environments
Respond to stimulus
Change over time
Can differ as individuals while still being part of a species
Are made up of cells
Review the following videos to understand what viruses are and how they work:
· Flu Attack! How a Virus Invades Your Body
· What is a Virus? How do Viruses Work?
Reading these discussions may help you to form your arguments on the status of viruses:
· Are Viruses Alive?
· Are Viruses Alive? Although Viruses Challenge Our Concept of What "Living" Means, They Are Vital Members of the Web of Life
Follow these guidelines for your paper:
· Utilize at least 1 credible source to support the arguments presented in the paper. Make sure you cite appropriately within your paper, and list the reference(s) in APA format on your Reference page.
· Your paper should be 1–2 pages in length, not counting the Title page and Reference page.

PSY 638 Final Project Milestone One Guidelines and Rubric
Prompt: For Milestone One of your final project, you will submit a draft of the Problem Identification section of your grant proposal. Think about the professional
environment you will be seeking upon graduation and a potential problem within that professional environment that could be solved through your
recommended program. Some examples of professional settings and grant proposal problems include:
School/Educational Setting
Orchard Middle School has over 50 at-risk students with a reading performance that directly affects their overall self-esteem and negative behavior
issues. The school submitted a grant proposal to support development of a program to help all students with poor reading skills learn to read at grade
level and increase their reading speed, comprehension, and reading attention span and overall sense of worth, esteem, and achievement. Studies have
shown those who do better in school, fare better with stable mental health.
Outpatient Mental Health
The Open Arms Family Center requested a grant in the amount of $250,000 to contribute to the start-up funds for a family homeless shelter and mental
health services. As an innovative, all-inclusive shelter program, the center aimed to provide for 10 families with children under the age of five who are
experiencing homelessness. The center is committed to its mission of decreasing the overall number of homeless families in the Metro Boston area as
well as working to break the cycle of homelessness.
Community Outreach
The purpose of Healthy Tomorrows is to stimulate innovative, community-based programs that employ prevention strategies to promote access to
healthcare for children and their families nationwide. HTPCP funding supports direct-service projects, not research projects. Healthy Tomorrows is
designed to support family-centered initiatives that implement innovative approaches for focusing resources to promote community; define preventive
child health and developmental objectives for vulnerable children and their families, especially those with limited access to quality health services; foster
cooperation among community organizations, agencies, and families; involve pediatricians and other pediatric, child, and adolescent mental health
professionals; build community and statewide partnerships among professionals in health, education, social services, government, and business to
achieve self-sustaining programs to ensure healthy children and families. Healthy Tomorrows requested a grant proposal for $10,000 to conduct a needs
analysis for a meal delivery program to serve its less mobile community members.
Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed in your milestone assignment:
I. Problem Identification: Research and identify resources for a specific developmental, behavioral, or diagnostic need for children or adolescents in
your community.

CASE STUDY RUBRIC MICROBIOLOGY
For the Case Study assignment the current pathogen selections may be requested by sending
an email to your instructor!
Assigned Case Study Problem:
You will create a case study for a microbial infection selected from the current pathogen list. Your case
study will be assembled using a detailed rubric (see below). Upon completion, you will submit your
case study to the Blackboard gradebook in Unit 5 and to SafeAssign.
How to create a case study
The case studies are meant to be an enjoyable, interesting, and informative assignment. This is your
chance to show that you understand the key teaching points about a microbe and to communicate
these points in a written format.
What information belongs in my case study?
Have at least 3-4 key referenced points in each of the five areas shown in the Case Study Information
Chart (see below). The left-hand heading in the chart suggests the type of information requested for the
pathogen. Outlines can be in whatever form you prefer (bullets/charts/outlines/diagrams or a mix). Be
sure to include two discussion questions (and provide complete answers) that you can incorporate
into your case study (place them at the end of your write-up). These questions should help connect your
case to other material in the course. For example, what other microbes have an A-B toxin? What other
viruses are transmitted by fecal-oral spread?
How much information should I provide for my case study?
For the Case Study, you are asked to provide at least the information requested in the chart below. The
boxed questions are suggestions for the minimum amount of information within each category. The
more detailed the information, the better the study. You may consult your textbook, CDC, WHO, Access
Medicine, Google Scholar, NCBI, WebMD, etc. to find the information. For example, if you perform a
Google search using the name of the pathogen and the word ‘vaccine’, you will find information on
current vaccines (if any), those in clinical trials, vaccines used only in animals, etc.
Case Study Information Chart
Typical Case What does a typical case look like? Use the standard format for a
patient presentation with chief complaint (CC), history of present illness

The document discusses evidence-based practice (EBP) and the Quadruple Aim in healthcare. It provides an overview of the increased focus on EBP since the Affordable Care Act required empirical evidence. It also introduces the Quadruple Aim, which aims to improve patient experience, improve population health, reduce costs, and improve provider work life and satisfaction. The assignment asks students to explore a healthcare organization's website to analyze the extent to which EBP is evident and supported by current sources.

Final Exam
Spend up to the next 2 hours to complete the following task, to the best of your ability. This exam is worth 100 points. There is no specific word count requirement.
Topic: Vitamin C - https://vitamincfoundation.org/squares/
Your submission should be in the form of written paragraphs, but you will not be evaluated on the quality of writing beyond the minimum necessary to understand what you are communicating. Your submission does not need to be as structured as the analysis assignments submitted during the semester. You should answer parts 1-5 of the task individually, each in paragraph form. Number each answer to correspond to parts 1-5, and then references at the end.
1. In one paragraph, summarize the product or service and describe what it is supposed to do.
2. In one paragraph, identify and clearly state at least one scientific claim being made about the product or service.
3. Identify and clearly describe at least two sources that are purported to support the claim. Each source should be described in a single paragraph (i.e., two paragraphs total). You must provide references for these sources (as well as any other that you use to complete the other tasks) at the end of your document, in the same format that you have been using throughout the semester.
4. Briefly evaluate the quality of the sources and whether or not the sources appear to support the claim. This section may be anywhere from one to several paragraphs long, as needed.
◦ State whether or not you believe the claim is justified, correct, and/or relevant based on your overall evaluation. This evaluation must take into account the sources you identified and evaluated (in steps 3 and 4).
◦ You may utilize sources that do not support the claim in your overall evaluation (i.e., sources in addition to the two from step 3).
◦ Your evaluation should explicitly consider at least two logical fallacies. These may be fallacies that you believe are present, or ones that could have been an issue but that you determined were not.
5. Based on your review of the product or service, summarize in one paragraph when use of the product or service might be beneficial: who might benefit and under what circumstances.
You are free to draw on prior knowledge, your textbook, and electronic resources, but should indicate when you have done so by using the same referencing methods utilized during the semester.
You may not use other humans. Communication in any form (verbal, physical, or electronic) with another human being during this exam will be considered academic misconduct and result in an automatic grade of zero. The sole exception is if you have an urgent issue that you communicate to an instructor. Your instructors will not provide assistance with this exam or the resources you utilize to complete it.
Your final document should be uploaded to the Assignments link provided through Brightspace. After verifying that the document has successfully uploaded, you are free to lea.

So your assignment is to critique a journal article. This handout will give you a few guidelines to
follow as you go. But wait, what kind of a journal article is it: an empirical/research article, or a
review of literature? Some of the guidelines offered here will apply to critiques of all kinds of
articles, but each type of article may provoke questions that are especially pertinent to that type
and no other. Read on.
First of all, for any type of journal article your critique should include some basic information:
1. Name(s) of the author(s)
2. Title of article
3. Title of journal, volume number, date, month and page numbers
4. Statement of the problem or issue discussed
5. The author’s purpose, approach or methods, hypothesis, and major conclusions.
The bulk of your critique, however, should consist of your qualified opinion of the article.
Read the article you are to critique once to get an overview. Then read it again, critically. At this
point you may want to make some notes to yourself on your copy (not the library’s copy,
please).
The following are some questions you may want to address in your critique no matter what type
of article you are critiquing. (Use your discretion. These points don’t have to be discussed in this
order, and some may not be pertinent to your particular article.)
1. Is the title of the article appropriate and clear?
2. Is the abstract specific, representative of the article, and in the correct form?
3. Is the purpose of the article made clear in the introduction?
4. Do you find errors of fact and interpretation? (This is a good one! You won’t believe how
often authors misinterpret or misrepresent the work of others. You can check on this by looking
up for yourself the references the author cites.)
5. Is all of the discussion relevant?
6. Has the author cited the pertinent, and only the pertinent, literature? If the author has included
inconsequential references, or references that are not pertinent, suggest deleting them.
7. Have any ideas been overemphasized or underemphasized? Suggest specific revisions.
8. Should some sections of the manuscript be expanded, condensed or omitted?
9. Are the author’s statements clear? Challenge ambiguous statements. Suggest by examples how
clarity can be achieved, but do not merely substitute your style for the author’s.
10. What underlying assumptions does the author have?
11. Has the author been objective in his or her discussion of the topic?
In addition, here are some questions that are more specific to empirical/research articles. (Again,
use your discretion.)
1. Is the objective of the experiment or of the observations important for the field?
2. Are the experimental methods described adequately?
3. Are the study design and methods appropriate for the purposes of the study?
4. Have the procedures ...

Why are organizations encouraged to develop a culture of safety? How can a culture of safety be achieved? How can a culture of safety be assessed? Research and identify an article discussing a healthcare organization e.g. hospital, nursing home, surgery center, patient care facility etc. that has implemented innovative safety operations to reduce corporate risk. Summarize three to four main points from your selected article. Cite the article in APA format as part of your post.
Why are organizations encouraged to develop a culture of safety?
Health care organizations are encouraged to create a safety culture to minimize the risk of injury and/or death to the patient as well as the employees due to everyday common mistakes ( Pogzar,2012). For example many times patients who have had invasive procedures develop sepsis while still in the hospital; this is due to carelessness of the treating staff when caring for the open wound. With employees a simple thing such as getting a flu shot can provide a safer, healthier environment for both parties, while reducing absences in the work place.
How can a culture of safety be achieved?
A culture of safety has to come from the top down, meaning that it must be demonstrated by management all the way down to the entry level employees in order for the collective efforts to make a difference in the way patient care is monitored and flowed. The vision set forth by the organization must be a realistic and one that motivates the employees to walk in the way of the vision. Most important is that the culture is able to evolve with technology and changing healthcare regulations. Mostly a culture of safety has to be one of commitment by all involved in the daily workflow.
How can a culture of safety be assessed?
Many organizations use benchmarking to assess where they stand amongst their peers, meaning how they fair against other organizations of the same size that provide the same services that they do. This can also be done by developing programs for patient safety and tracking the rate of which incidents are occur before, during, and after the roll out of the programs. The most important part of the assessment is being sure that the mandatory regulations are being upheld and carried out to standards.
Organization
In the article Sentara Healthcare: Making Patient Safety an Enduring Organizational Value, it speaks of how the organization as a whole was doing poorly compared to peer organizations. The leadership deiced to hire an outside firm to assess areas where the organization could improve and to help increase patient safety. Since the processes of reproduction and birth represent one of the potential biological outcomes of heterosexual activity, it is important to examine the biological foundations of human sexuality. This includes knowledge of fertilization and early development, including some of the most recent findings. There is more than a litany of birth control methods; this assessment offers a sound basis for understanding the issues to be weighed in personal decision making about contraception and abortion, which continue to generate debate and controversy.
By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria:
Competency 1: Apply psychological theories to topics in human sexuality.

Module 4 - SLP
DISTRIBUTIVE JUSTICE
The goal of the Session Long Project is to identify and evaluate the ethical principles used in resolving ethical dilemmas, and to apply the principles to specific ethical issues that may have professional, sociological, economic, legal or political implications.
Often times a patient needs a lot of resources prior to being discharged from the hospital. Some organizations use discharge planners or case managers to aid in acquiring these resources. The topic of this SLP is about Jenna, a young woman who could not be discharged home until the issue of resources to care for her was resolved. This story demonstrates that resource allocation decision making is inherently complex, a process that is dynamic, multidimensional, and iterative. After reading the article, "The relational nature of case manager resource allocation decision making: An illustrated case" by Fraser, Estabrooks, and Strang and doing additional research, please respond to the questions listed below:
1. Provide a brief summary of Jenna's case. What was her medical condition? What was her prognosis? Why was it important for her to go home? Did she get to go home? If so, how did that impact her recovery?
2. What were the resources that Jenna needed to go home? What barriers did her case manager encounter in acquiring these resources?
3. Discuss the theory of relational ethics as it applies to this case. What is it? How does it impact the allocation of resources? Think about your own discipline of study, how does this theory apply to acquiring scare resources? Provide an example.
4. Based on what you have read about this case and resource allocation, do you agree with the statement "that resource allocation decision making is inherently complex, a process that is dynamic, multidimensional, and iterative"? Why or why not? What are your views on the fairness of the process? Was it done in a fair manner in this case? Did Jenna get preferential treatment because of her case manager? If there was no one advocating for her, what do you think the outcome would have been?
SLP Assignment Expectations
1. You will be expected to provide a scholarly basis for your response.
2. Your opinions must be justified with evidence from the literature.
3. References should be cited properly in the text of your essay (either in parentheses or as footnotes), as well as at the end.
4. Several (3-5) scholarly references should be cited for this assignment.
5. Please limit your response to 3 pages maximum, not including title and refer.
This document outlines the individual assignments for the NUR 440 Complete Course. The course consists of 5 weeks which include papers on vulnerable populations, self-awareness, assessment tools, cultural competence, and a final workplace project. Persuasive Speech Instructions
This course requires you to present a persuasive speech to a live, visually documented audience of 3 or more adults. Use a video recording device to create an audible recording of this presentation for submission. After recording the presentation, upload it to YouTube as an unlisted video and post the video’s link to the instructor via the designated Blackboard assignment submission link. See the Posting Speech Videos to Blackboard via YouTube tutorial (in the Assignment Instructions folder) for step-by-step instruction about this process.
Your speech grade will be determined by the degree to which you satisfy the requirements listed below.
1. Choose an appropriate topic.
This assignment requires you to research a global, national, regional, state or local problem that apparently exists because humans in general or a specific group of humans are neglecting their duty to promote the things God values in this world.
· The problem may be political, economic, educational, environmental, medical, religious, or cultural. It may be a false belief or set of beliefs (about God, nature, or other people) that needs correction, a wrongful attitude or type of attitude (toward God, nature, or other people) that needs adjustment, a neglectful or wrong way of acting (toward God, nature, or other people) that needs to change, or a state of needfulness or brokenness that exists as it does because of human indifference or inactivity.
· The problem must be a social one that deters many individuals—not just a few isolated lives—from experiencing life according to God’s Word as he intended when he created the world the people in it.
Among the social issues that could generate a qualified speech topic are the following:
abortion, infanticide, or euthanasia
discrimination (racism, sexism, ageism)
abuse (child, elder, self, spousal)
ecology (climate change, pollution, littering)
addictions/codependency/eating disorders
education (underachievement or illiteracy)
air, land, or water pollution
famine, drought or diseases
animal abuse or vivisection
labor issues (child labor or sweatshops)
bioethics (cloning, eugenics, stem cell research)
marriage (divorce, cohabitation)
birth or population control
poverty (world hunger or homelessness)
crime (street, juvenile, gang, or white collar)
sex (pre-marital, extramarital, homosexual)
criminal justice (prison crowding, recidivism)
slavery or human trafficking
The following sites may be helpful for discovering or exploring these and other qualified topics:
Center for Bioethics and Human Dignity
The Heritage Foundation
Family Research Council
The Rutherford Institute
The American Enterprise Institute
The Pew Forum on Religion in Public Life
The Discovery Institute
Speech Goals: Because this is a persuasive speech—a speech in which you try to persuade the audience to believe or value something or to act in a specific way—and because you are to use this particular speech to advocate a rede.
IDS 402 Milestone One Guidelines and Rubric
Critical Analysis Portfolio and Presentation Proposal
Overview: For the first part of your final project, the critical analysis portfolio, you will select an issue or event in wellness and critically analyze it through the
four general education lenses: history, humanities, natural and applied sciences, and social sciences. By viewing the issue/event through these lenses, you will
gain insight into how the interconnected nature of wellness affects society, as well as both your own individual framework of perception and the choices,
attitudes, and behaviors of others in the world around you.
For this first milestone, due in Module Two, you will select an issue/event to analyze through the four general education lenses. You will explain the issue/event
and its relationship to wellness, as well as describe its connection to all four lenses.
Prompt: First, review the module resources you have so far encountered, as well as your work in Module One. In addition, it is suggested that you visit the IDS
402 Research LibGuide (linked in the Start Here section of your course) for guidance on how to select a topic. Select one issue/event in wellness and write a
paper that addresses how this issue/event fits into the framework of wellness, and then addresses how each lens influences perceptions and attitudes toward
the issue/event, wellness, and society. The paper should outline each lens’s impact and framing of the issue/event. Be sure to provide a working thesis
statement and clear definitions for your key terms.
Specifically, you must address the critical elements listed below.
I. Introduction: You will compile a series of critical analyses of a single issue/event in wellness through the four general education lenses: history,
humanities, natural and applied sciences, and social sciences.
A. Topic: Using the four lenses, explain how an issue/event within wellness has or has not influenced modern society.
II. Lens Connections: In this section of your assignment, you will describe the connections between your issue/event and each of the four general
education lenses.
A. What is the connection of your issue/event to the lens of history for determining its impact on various institutions? Utilize evidence from theory
and research to support your analysis.
B. What is the connection of your issue/event to the lens of the humanities for determining its impact on various institutions? Utilize evidence
from theory and research to support your analysis.
C. What is the connection of your issue/event to the lens of the natural and applied sciences for determining its impact on various institutions?
Utilize evidence from theory and research to support your analysis.

Explain the principles and concepts of disease prevention and health.docxwrite12
The document discusses health promotion and disease prevention for diverse populations. It focuses on three key areas:
1) Comparing health statistics for vulnerable populations to general populations, including factors like culture, economics, and law.
2) Explaining principles of health promotion and prevention for vulnerable groups, and recommending evidence-based initiatives.
3) Applying epidemiological concepts and research to evaluate initiatives and address health disparities for diverse populations.
The assessment requires identifying a vulnerable population, comparing its health risks to others, analyzing factors influencing its health outcomes, and recommending initiatives based on research.
The document discusses developing an evidence-based population health improvement plan to address a widespread health issue in a community. It involves evaluating demographic, environmental and epidemiological data to identify the health issue. A plan is then developed to address the issue, based on current evidence from at least 3-5 sources. The plan must be culturally sensitive and consider the community's needs. Outcomes will be evaluated using proposed measurable criteria. A clear strategy for communicating the plan to colleagues and community members in an ethical and inclusive way is also required.

Some of the key assignments involve selecting a vulnerable population to research, analyzing assessment tools, creating a presentation on cultural competence, and developing an action plan for a workplace project focused on barriers to healthcare for vulnerable groups.

D. What is the connection of your issue/event to the lens of the social sciences for determining its impact on various institutions? Utilize evidence

1. In 1764, criminologist Cesare Beccaria wrote An Essay on Crimes and Punishments, which set forth classical criminological theory. He argued that the only justified rationale for laws and punishments was the principle of utility.
2. Beccaria believed the basis of society, as well as the origin of punishments and the right to punish, is the social contract. The only legitimate purpose of punishment is special deterrence and general deterrence.
3. Beccaria believed the best way to prevent and deter crime was to: • Enact laws that are clear, simple, and unbiased, and that reflect the consensus of the population. • Educate the public. • Eliminate corruption from the administration of justice. • Reward virtue.
4. Real-world drawbacks of Beccaria’s theory are: • Not all offenders are alike, juveniles are treated the same as adults. • Similar crimes are not always as similar as they might appear,first-time offenders are treated the same as repeat offenders.

Chocolates by Jacki has provided information relating to its curre.docxbissacr
Chocolates by Jacki has provided information relating to its current year. The Controller has asked you to complete a First-Stage Allocation to Activity Cost Pools. Use the information included in the Excel Simulation and the Excel functions described below to complete the task.
· Cell Reference: Allows you to refer to data from another cell in the worksheet. From the Excel Simulation below, if in a blank cell, “=B7” was entered, the formula would output the result from cell B7, or 400,000 in this example.
· Absolute Reference: Allows you to maintain the original cell reference when a formula is copied to another cell. The cell reference is “locked” by putting a dollar sign ($) before the column and row references. By default a cell reference is relative, so when you copy a formula to another cell the values update based on a relative reference. For example, if you copy the formula “=B8+B9” from cell C1 to cell C2, the formula in cell C2 will relatively update to be “=B9+B10” since the copied formula moved down one cell, the formula cell references also moved down one cell. Conversely, by adding the absolute cell reference “locks” to the equation, the formula will not change when copied to any other cell. For example, “=$B$8+$B$9” written in cell C1 is copied to cell C2, the formula in cell C2 will remain “=$B$8+$B$9”. You can also use a mixed cell reference by only “locking” the column or row only ($B8 or B$8) which locks that specific column or row and the other reference becomes a relative reference and “moves” with the formula as its copied to another cell. For example, if you copy the formula “=B$8+B9” from cell C1 to cell C2, the formula in cell C2 will update to be “=B$8+B10” since the copied formula moved down one cell, the formula cell relative references also moved down one cell, but the absolute “locked” reference remained the same.
· Basic Math functions: Allows you to use the basic math symbols to perform mathematical functions. You can use the following keys: + (plus sign to add), - (minus sign to subtract), * (asterisk sign to multiply), and / (forward slash to divide). From the Excel Simulation below, if in a blank cell “=B18+B19” was entered, the formula would add the values from those cells and output the result, or 250,000 in this example. If using the other math symbols the result would output an appropriate answer for its function.
· SUM function: Allows you to refer to multiple cells and adds all the values. You can add individual cell references or ranges to utilize this function. From the Excel Simulation below, if in a blank cell “=SUM(B13,B14,B15)” was entered, the formula would output the result of adding those three separate cells, or 375,000 in this example. Similarly, if in a blank cell “=SUM(B13:B15)” was entered, the formula would output the same result of adding those cells, except they are expressed as a range in the formula, and the result would be 375,000 in this example.

1a. This study uses qualitative meta-synthesis to take a holistic approach to innovation in information systems companies. The article stated that the researchers used qualitative meta-synthesis that analyzed over 370 different articles, journals or other written forums, which required a severe amount of time to read a review and correlate to each other to show a holistic approach. Some of the artifacts used were, “Fear of technological complexity”, “Data collection and processing tools”, and others in Table 1 (Lawrence, 2013).
1b. Information systems innovation is difficult. Not only just systems such as Facebook and Google but the backbone of systems that run corporations such as FedEx and UPS. Changing the users’ experience where it is not just easy to use, but functional has always been difficult such as when we think back to how clunky MySpace and AOL were. This article is about how cultures in information systems companies need mediation to generate innovation, which is directly applicable to how to generate innovative environments.
2a. This research focused on how social media could or could not enhance innovation. The researcher’s hypothesis was that a new connection + novel idea = innovation. In order to connect people, the researcher’s used social media due to its proclivity in today’s world. There were 31 owner-managers from the United Kingdom that signed up and 42 interviews that were conducted. The result of those interviews were over 500 pages of transcripts that required combing through, but first as binned by coding into nine different categories. Overall there was an extensive amount of qualitative research conducted is considerably larger than most qualitative studies.
2b. This article specifically applies to my topic of how to generate innovative environments because it takes a 21st-century approach to innovation, which is ironic, and assess how to use social media to generate innovative ideas. Though overall the discovery is that social media is a difficult platform to meet strangers, there is an avenue such as like type communities on social media that would work better.

Chinese railroad workers began to contribute to the Canadian railr.docxbissacr
Chinese railroad workers began to contribute to the Canadian railroad in 1800, but they paid a lot of labour and even life with low wages. Now, many bronze men in the Roger's Centre in Toronto are reminding people that many Chinese workers died while building the railroad, they were overworked and their salaries were low (China town concern group, 2016, para.1). However, these hard and lovely people have not received the respect they deserve in such a difficult situation. After they built the Canadian Pacific Railway, one of Canada's outstanding engineering projects, they were discriminatorily levied a head tax on Chinese workers. As the Frey (2017) suggests, the racist law imposed a "head tax" on Chinese immigrants from 1885 to 1923, acknowledging that the abuse of Chinese immigrants is a long process, and it is necessary to fight against historical inertia and racist laws (para.18). Over time, people's awareness of racism has increased, and they have begun to reflect on previous mistakes and modify some wrong regulations and measures. The websites show the unequal treatment and compensation of many Chinese railroad workers.

Clinical effectiveness of manual therapy for the
management of musculoskeletal and non-
musculoskeletal conditions: systematic review
and update of UK evidence report
Christine Clar1, Alexander Tsertsvadze1, Rachel Court1, Gillian Lewando Hundt2, Aileen Clarke1 and Paul Sutcliffe1*
Abstract
Background: This systematic review updated and extended the “UK evidence report” by Bronfort et al. (Chiropr
Osteopath 18:3, 2010) with respect to conditions/interventions that received an ‘inconclusive’ or ‘negative’ evidence
rating or were not covered in the report.
Methods: A literature search of more than 10 general medical and specialised databases was conducted in August
2011 and updated in March 2013. Systematic reviews, primary comparative studies and qualitative studies of
patients with musculoskeletal or non-musculoskeletal conditions treated with manual therapy and reporting clinical
outcomes were included. Study quality was assessed using standardised instruments, studies were summarised, and
the results were compared against the evidence ratings of Bronfort. These were either confirmed, updated, or new
categories not assessed by Bronfort were added.
Results: 25,539 records were found; 178 new and additional studies were identified, of which 72 were systematic
reviews, 96 were randomised controlled trials, and 10 were non-randomised primary studies. Most ‘inconclusive’ or
‘moderate’ evidence ratings of the UK evidence report were confirmed. Evidence ratings changed in a positive
direction from inconclusive to moderate evidence ratings in only three cases (manipulation/mobilisation [with
exercise] for rotator cuff disorder; spinal mobilisation for cervicogenic headache; and mobilisation for
miscellaneous headache). In addition, evidence was identified on a large number of non-musculoskeletal conditions
not previously considered; most of this evidence was rated as inconclusive.
Conclusions: Overall, there was limited high quality evidence for the effectiveness of manual therapy. Most reviewed
evidence was of low to moderate quality and inconsistent due to substantial methodological and clinical diversity.
Areas requiring further research are highlighted.
Keywords: Clinical effectiveness, Manual therapy, Systematic review, Musculoskeletal, Bronfort

PERSONAL APPLICATION PAPER
In addition to reading and thinking about the concepts covered in the text, an important part of the
learning process includes applying these concepts to your own life and experiences. To facilitate
this process, a personal application paper must be uploaded on Moodle no later than 10am on
Monday, May 11. The paper should be typed (12 characters/inch font), three to five pages in
length, and double-spaced with one inch margins. Late papers will not be accepted and
students not turning in papers will receive a 0. The personal application paper will count
for 25% of your final grade.
For the paper, students should select one or two central topics discussed during the semester and
write about how the topic(s) is relevant to you and your life. For example, for the chapter on
prejudice, you might write about a time you directly or indirectly experienced some form of
prejudice. Alternatively, you could analyze a television commercial with an eye toward the material
covering the use of persuasion to increase compliance. Remember, this assignment is intended to
help you recognize how the material covered in class is personally relevant, as well as to
encourage you to think critically about the concepts presented instead of passively accepting them
as truths. Thus it is acceptable (and commendable) to include in your paper a discussion of the
reasons why you agree/disagree with what the author is saying. To reiterate, each paper must
have the following two components: a review (including proper citation) of the concept from the text
to be discussed; and second, your thoughts/feelings on this topic and a discussion of how it applies
to your life including whether you agree/disagree with what the author has said.

China’s reliance on coal epitomizes the central single energy .docxbissacr
China’s reliance on coal epitomizes the central “single energy dilemma” by being dependent upon oil heavily over the last decade. China became a net coal importer in 2009. They have multiple sources that supplies the country in proximity; specifically, Australia, Russia, and Indonesia to name a couple. China is the “second largest economy and destination of foreign direct investment” (Sarah Ladislaw, 2014). China due to the heavy growth must use more energy in order to support the growth. Another source stated that China also imported 5.4 million barrels per day of crude and 706 billion cubic feet of natural gas in 2012 alone. This contributes to the “single energy dilemma” because China seemingly is dependent on imported oils due to the amount of growth that they are experiencing.
In my personal assessment it is likely that China can move away from and off goal due to the development and interest in shale gas which is an alternative to coal. China used 10.7 million barrels of oil per day in 2013 which accounted for one third of global oil demand. Due to shale gas being developed China is rethinking their relationships with the Middle East and North Africa. Their dependence on Middle East supplies continues to grow so there needs to be another option for a country who grows ten percent per decade. There are other avenues other than the Middle East. For example, China has been looking into resources closer to home such as central Asian countries for oil. In conclusion China can move away from and off coal with the development of great relationships closer to home.

China, also known as the Peoples Republic of China or PRC, is a cou.docxbissacr
China, also known as the People's Republic of China or PRC, is a country located in the east of Asia. It is the largest Asian country and has the biggest population in the world at around 1.4 billion. Its ruling and founding political party is called the
Communist Party
wherein the head of state is the President, elected by the National People's Congress. He supervises the state council which consists of four vice premiers and the heads of ministries and commissions.
Although Human rights are exercised in this country, a sample of which is the freedom of speech, it is not freely implemented, since it is limited and firmly restricted by specific regulations and laws. This essay will tackle the restriction of freedom of speech in China.
Limited Freedom of Expression
Freedom of expression is the right to convey one’s opinions and thoughts without fear of being punished by the country's government. And although a lot of countries are exercising freedom of speech, some countries like China don't have this as one of their basic human rights.
As a sample, during the 2008 Summer Olympics, the Chinese government agreed to release permits allowing the people to protest in specific areas designed as protest parks in Beijing, but most of the applications sent to the government were either refused, banned or withheld and the police authorities even apprehended the people who applied for permits. If you are looking for essay examples, for example, a
freedom of speech persuasive essay
, it would impossible to find an essay that cites controversial issues. This is because access to web pages considered by the authorities of China as "threatening" or "risky" to the Communist Party are blocked on the internet.
On the brighter side, The Chinese government is spending huge amounts of money on catching and blocking not only web pages that advertise political change within the country, but also websites which may have violence and pornography. According to the Constitution of the People's Republic of China, Chinese citizens can enjoy the freedom of the press and freedom of speech.
However, these kinds of freedom are not institutionally protected. Public speeches that consist of forbidden subjects that can have a huge impact on the people could result in a penalty by the government, and that can include criminal sentences.

LAND USE LAND COVER AND NDVI OF MIRZAPUR DISTRICT, UPRAHUL
This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
crucial for coordinated efforts across different administrative levels. Advanced technologies like
Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems

Changes in vegetation cover refer to variations in the distribution, composition, and overall
structure of plant communities across different temporal and spatial scales. These changes can
occur natural.

How to Fix the Import Error in the Odoo 17Celine George
An import error occurs when a program fails to import a module or library, disrupting its execution. In languages like Python, this issue arises when the specified module cannot be found or accessed, hindering the program's functionality. Resolving import errors is crucial for maintaining smooth software operation and uninterrupted development processes.
This document provides an overview of wound healing, its functions, stages, mechanisms, factors affecting it, and complications.
A wound is a break in the integrity of the skin or tissues, which may be associated with disruption of the structure and function.
Healing is the body’s response to injury in an attempt to restore normal structure and functions.
Healing can occur in two ways: Regeneration and Repair
There are 4 phases of wound healing: hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. This document also describes the mechanism of wound healing. Factors that affect healing include infection, uncontrolled diabetes, poor nutrition, age, anemia, the presence of foreign bodies, etc.
Complications of wound healing like infection, hyperpigmentation of scar, contractures, and keloid formation.
Characteristics of Living Things (50 points)Living things shar.docx
1. Characteristics of Living Things (50 points)
Living things share 8 characteristics (listed in Chapter 1 of your
textbook on page 19). A living thing grows, undergoes
metabolism, responds to its environment, reproduces, passes
DNA to the next generation, maintains homeostasis, changes
over time, and is made up of cells. A non-living thing may seem
to do one or more of these things, but to be classified as living;
all eight characteristics must be present. Sometimes, you may
see something that seems alive but is not. Though you can’t see
it, you have likely experienced it; one of those things is a virus.
Answer BOTH of the following questions:
1. Using all 8 of the characteristics that define life, indicate
which one(s) viruses have and which one(s) they do not, and
explain each difference.
2. With these results, present an argument that a virus is a
living thing. Then, present the opposite argument that viruses
are not alive.
You can fill out a table like this (though this is not required):
Characteristic
Virus
(yes, no, maybe, sort of)
Explanation
Reproduce
Pass along their traits through DNA
Consume energy sources and expel waste products to maintain
homeostasis
2. Respond to their environments
Respond to stimulus
Change over time
Can differ as individuals while still being part of a species
Are made up of cells

PSY 638 Final Project Guidelines and Rubric
Overview
The final project for this course is the creation of a grant
proposal.
The assessment for this course will be the construction of a
grant proposal that targets a current area of developmental,
behavioral, or diagnostic need for
children or adolescents in your community. The final project
represents an authentic demonstration of competency, because it
requires you to apply concepts
from across the child and adolescent curriculum to compose an
original grant proposal for a theoretically supported, age-
specific, and effective intervention
program. Terms commonly used in grant proposals include
8. problem identification, prevalence, assessment of resources,
impact of the problem, and
implementation plan. The meaning of these grant terms is
revealed in the critical elements listed in the prompt, in which
you will be asked to devise a grant
proposal that one would submit in the field of psychology.
Grant proposals could be submitted for funding for research,
training, institutional upgrades,
nonprofit center grants, funding opportunities, grants for
children’s programs, or grants for specific outreach programs
such as engaging underrepresented
cultures. The purpose of this task is to assess your
understanding of concepts from across the child and adolescent
curriculum.
Some real-world examples of grant proposal ideas have
included:
Orchard Middle School has over 50 at-risk students with a
reading performance that directly affects their overall self-
esteem and negative behavior
issues. The school submitted a grant proposal to support
development of a program to help all students with poor reading
skills learn to read at grade
level and increase their reading speed, comprehension, and
reading attention span and overall sense of worth, esteem, and
achievement. Studies have
shown those who do better in school, fare better with stable
mental health.
The Open Arms Family Center requested a grant in the amount
of $250,000 to contribute to the start-up funds for a family
9. homeless shelter and mental
health services. As an innovative, all-inclusive shelter program,
the center aimed to provide for 10 families with children under
the age of five who are
experiencing homelessness. The center is committed to its
mission of decreasing the overall number of homeless families
in the Metro Boston area as
well as working to break the cycle of homelessness.
The purpose of Healthy Tomorrows is to stimulate innovative
community-based programs that employ prevention strategies to
promote access to
health care for children and their families nationwide. HTPCP
funding supports direct-service projects, not research projects.
Healthy Tomorrows is
designed to support family-centered initiatives that implement
innovative approaches for focusing resources to promote
community; define preventive
child health and developmental objectives for vulnerable
children and their families, especially those with limited access
to quality health services; foster
cooperation among community organizations, agencies, and
families; involve pediatricians and other pediatric, child, and
adolescent mental health
professionals; build community and statewide partnerships
among professionals in health, education, social services,
government, and business to
achieve self-sustaining programs to ensure healthy children and
families. Healthy Tomorrows requested a grant proposal for
$10,000 to conduct a needs
10. analysis for a meal delivery program to serve its less mobile
community members.
The below resources provide more details and insight into the
grant-writing process:
Service Professionals
Association’s resource page for grant writing)
The project is divided into three milestones, which will be
submitted at various points throughout the course to scaffold
learning and ensure quality final
submissions. These milestones will be submitted in Modules
Three, Five, and Seven. The final submission will occur in
Module Nine.
In this assignment, you will demonstrate your mastery of the
following course outcomes:
strengths and weaknesses in addressing current developmental,
behavioral, and diagnostic
issues for children and adolescents
adolescents with specific disorders established by the American
Psychiatric Association
vironmental,
cultural, and political factors for their current impact on the
diagnostic process for children
11. and adolescents
support services in terms of accessibility, organization, funding,
and overall effectiveness
development in the field of child and adolescent psychology
-supported
intervention strategies to address current developmental,
behavioral, and diagnostic needs of
children and adolescents
Prompt
The grant proposal will contain the critical elements listed
below.
I. Problem Identification: Research and identify resources for a
specific developmental, behavioral, or diagnostic need for
children or adolescents in
your community (3–4 pages):
a. Prevalence: Determine a necessary program or service by
examining current needs for children or adolescents in your
community, using
the standards established by the American Psychiatric
Association.
i. What is the issue you have chosen to address? Who is
affected? What data do you have that points to the prevalence of
this issue?
ii. What is the necessary service or program? How will it
12. address the needs you have examined?
b. Assessment of Resources: Evaluate available and needed
resources in your community.
i. Evaluate the resources available for providing a program or
service such as the one you have identified.
ii. Determine necessary resources that are not available and
explain their importance in providing the identified program or
service.
c. Impact of Problem: Describe the impact of the problem on
individuals, families, and the community. Construct an impact
statement based on

the prevalence of the identified issue and the lack of community
resources.
i. Articulate how the lack of the identified program or service
has an impact on the community.
ii. How is the lack of available resources exacerbating the
issue?
II. Literature Review: Conduct a review of available literature
around developmental theory in regard to your identified issue
(3–4 pages):
a. Problem/Need: Using American Psychiatric Association
criteria and current professional research publications, how is
the
13. identified developmental, behavioral, or diagnostic problem
identified/diagnosed in children and adolescents?
b. Theory Survey and Comparison: Survey current
developmental theories.
i. Identify the factors that contribute to the prevalence of the
problem according to these theories.
ii. How do these different theories compare? What are their
contrasting opinions in regard to prevalence and diagnosis of
your
identified problem?
III. Intervention Strategy: Research and justify the selection of
a theoretically supported and effective intervention strategy for
addressing the target issue
(2–3 pages):
a. Efficacy: Analyze and critique at least two established
intervention strategies for inconsistencies and effectiveness.
i. Critically examine intervention strategies for consistency with
current developmental theories.
ii. How effective were these strategies in addressing their
respective issues? To what extent would these intervention
strategies address
the issue identified in your community?
b. Selection: Select an intervention strategy and justify your
selection based on its effectiveness and the individual, familial,
environmental, cultural, and political factors. Your strategy
should be appropriate for your age-specific population.
c. Ethics: Analyze the selected intervention strategy for possible
ethical and legal challenges. Consider provider as well as client
concerns.
14. IV. Implementation Plan: Construct a plan for implementation
of the selected intervention strategy in your community (4–5
pages):
a. Narrative: Compose a narrative to describe the setting,
personnel, target population, length of time for service, and
capacity of the
proposed program.
b. Training: Formulate a strategy for the training of personnel
according to the selected intervention strategy.
c. Assessment: Recommend an assessment plan to evaluate the
effectiveness of the intervention strategy.
d. Ethics: Assess the ethical and legal implications for
implementing the intervention strategy in your community.
V. Closing Statement: Summarize your grant
proposal/recommendation with careful attention to the audience
you must convince.
Milestones
