1. Holly represents the character of a tomboy, as she is not as
feminine as the others. She is more wild and outgoing than the
others. She is viewed as being impatient and while she is
somewhat a daredevil, she is not always keen on putting herself in
danger as when she saw phosphorus in the cave and thought it was
natural light, she ran straight towards it to get out of the cave.
Sam is the youngest and least experienced of the group as she is
still in university to become a doctor. This means she is also the
smartest of the lot however she is also a lot less confident therefore
she was not the leader of the group. She was also Rebecca’s
younger sister.
Rebecca is Sam’s older sister and she is a bit of a motherly figure as
she is overprotective and motherly towards her sister. This is
shown where she climbs over the gorge to make it safe for the rest
to get to the other side (especially her sister). She is also one of the
oldest of the lot however she is not leader material therefore she
does not take charge.
Juno is the oldest and most experienced of the lot. She is that
person that has already done it all but still goes after any challenge.
She is also not a good friend as she cheats with Sarah’s husband.
Sarah is a mentally disturbed, psychopathic widow who recently
lost her husband and daughter to two long metal pipes, which went
through their heads during a car crash with a terrible driver on an
otherwise empty road. She tends to hallucinate like when she
thought a pipe went through the window into her face. She is now
caving with her friends to try to take her mind off her dead
daughter and that guy she doesn’t really care about any more.

2. Beth is the comedian of the group that tells a couple of jokes
throughout the movie. She is an English teacher and during the
entry of the cave, she keeps Sarah sane however her death leads to
Sarah losing her mind and becoming Rambo. She is also one of two
members of the group (The other being Sarah) that is not killed by
crawlers. Instead of dying at the feet of a crawler, she is killed
slowly by the cut in her neck accidentally made by Juno and taken
out of her misery by Sarah before she choked to death. She is
somewhat significant to the movie as she reveals to Sarah that Juno
was cheating with her husband, which leads to Sarah leaving Juno
for dead.
