To best help the disadvantaged, we must provide opportunities rather than direct aid, which can foster dependency. Our views of poverty are biased, and the poor need access to the global economy through opportunities, not just commodities, to become self-sufficient and improve local economies and standards of living. Instead of just giving help, we should connect people to opportunities.
