2. People move house for different reasons. Some find moving to be the wisest option to seize work or educational opportunities or accommodate the needs of a growing family. According to a 2012 study from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, 43% of Australians moved house over the last five years. Further statistics claim that only 16% of the population wants to stay in their present address and 36% stated that they will likely scout for homes in other locations in the future.
3. Reasons for Moving
Experts found that the lifestyle in a location, more than the area itself, affects the decision of moving. People choose experience that the area offers over practicality. This is why the family’s involvement in the local community also influences the length of time they spend in their present home.
Around 18% of the population moves to acquire a bigger home for their growing family’s needs. On a national scale, there is an average rate of 14% that accounts for those who want to expose themselves to more employment opportunities. Furthermore, as auction clearance rates become more accessible, most homeowners seize the opportunity to buy and move into new properties.
4. Profiles of Movers
Young couples who don’t have children are among the most common movers in Australia. They represent the 14% of recent movers. Most of them claim that they changed address three or more times in the last five years.
For families, the decision depends on the age of the children. Couples who have younger children are more likely to transfer than those who have teenagers. Homeowners strive to find better living spaces while children are still young.
Single parents with dependent children are also very mobile. 21% of them say that the reason for the move is the failure of marriage. They want to recover from the emotional distress of divorce and start fresh in a new home.
A research labels Australia as a “nation of movers.” As life circumstances change, so do their address.
