Do you know that confrontation and even conflict can
be positive and beneficial
for an organization at
times? This, of course,
doesn’t mean that you
should cultivate conflict and
misunderstanding in a
workplace. It is always
better to avoid and resolve conflicts in the soonest
possible time.
As an employee, you know that it isn’t a good idea to
confront your supervisor. Doing so may jeopardize your
chances of advancing in your job and could even cause
you to lose it. And so, if you want to avoid the need of
changing jobs because you had an argument with your
boss, the best thing you can do is to work around
whatever conflict you have. Here’s how you can do this:
1. Empathize with Your Boss.
If you feel like confronting your boss, you should realize
first that he looks at things not the same way as you do.
Although he may obviously be wrong in this case, but
you should still give him the benefit of the doubt.
Psychologists explain that seeing things in another
person’s perspective will help in taking control of your
emotions. This will also make you think of a better
approach to the situation.
2. Control Yourself.
It is never right to let your emotions control your
behavior or action. Rather than feeling mad about what
your boss is saying, why not block his criticisms by
actually agreeing with him? Remember that an
impossible boss is not likely to stay long in an
organization. But you have to make sure that the way
you handled the conflict will him will leave you a good
impression.
3. Don’t Point Fingers.
In case your boss asks to talk to you, you should expect
it to be a heated conversation. Nevertheless, there is no
reason for you to accuse him of anything or blame him.
It is a natural reaction of any individual to defend
themselves when they are criticized or attacked. Make
sure that you keep yourself calm and attentively listen
to everything that he has to say. If there’s something
you find confusing about what he’s saying, don’t
hesitate to ask. Do not consider your conversation as
confrontation. Think of it as a collaboration instead.
As an employee, it is part of your job to be humble at
times, especially in dealing with your boss. If you want
to avoid having to consider an untimely job change,
then you need to be open-minded enough to do what it
takes to properly and professionally deal with your
boss.
You have spent so many hours, nights, and days trying
to make yourself better
in your job. Not only
that, you have
sacrificed time with
your loved ones
because you thought
being seriously
committed to your job is the ticket to a better and
higher paying position. But then, nobody seems to
notice you and appreciate the work that you do. So you
decide it’s time to change careers.
Although you feel you have all the reasons in the world
to look for a different career to pursue, you still need to
do a lot of thinking. Deciding hastily could put you in a
very unfamiliar position with no professional network
and enough experience. Changing careers is not as easy
as changing a job. Before you submit your resignation
letter, consider these solutions to the problems you are
having in your current career.
IF you don’t feel you fit in with the culture in the
company…
If you are having issues with your relationships with
your coworkers, boss, or anyone you work with, then
you may consider working in another place. Remember
that you don’t necessarily have to get a different career
if your main problem is your workplace.
IF you are not given the recognition or appreciation you
deserve…
It’s nice to be recognized, of course, but if you are using
this as your drive to work hard, there must be
something wrong with your self esteem. You need to
learn how to set goals that don’t depend on other
people’s approval.
IF you don’t feel enthusiastic about working anymore…
If you find yourself yawning too often at your desk, then
you should look for some projects to do on your own.
You could ask around also to see if someone may need
the skills that you have. It would be good for you also to
challenge yourself to be more efficient in your own job.
IF you feel there’s no way up in your company…
It is always a good idea to acquire new skills and gain
more knowledge. You can talk to your manager and ask
what you could do to deserve a promotion in the future.
If it means that you need to take training courses once
again, then do so. If it seems like it’s dead end in your
current job, this could be a good reason for you to
consider changing jobs instead. Remember that
wherever you go, your skills will remain your tool for
career advancement.
Moving from one company to another may seem like a
good strategy for you to
acquire different skills
and more experience to
include in your resume,
but what you may not
know is how
disadvantageous this could also be for you and how it
could affect your future employment.
Uncertain Retirement Plan
One of the biggest reasons you would want to stay in
the same job for a long period of time is that it allows
you to prepare better for your retirement. Those who
frequently change jobs are unconsciously setting their
contributions to their 401k and other retirement
accounts to the lowest level. You perhaps don’t think of
this as something significant right now because you are
still employed, but you should think about how you are
going to live in the future if you are to depend solely on
retirement programs offered by the government.
Lack of Stability and Commitment
Employers do not always favor those who keep
changing jobs because they seem like they are not
committed to anything. If your resume shows how
constantly you switch employment, you will be seen as
someone who is unstable and uncertain of his or her
life. More importantly, you should understand that
employers want to hire people who can stay for a long
time so that they could contribute to the company’s
success.
Always a Beginner
If you constantly change jobs, you may never know how
it feels to be a veteran in a company. You will be like a
new kid on the block over and over again. And although
your age tells that you are experienced and can be
considered a senior, you will not receive that type of
respect because you are always a newcomer to a
workplace.
Conclusion
Indeed, there are many valid reasons why you would
want or even need to go look for a different job. There
is nothing wrong also if you want to look for a job that
will make you happy. But this also doesn’t make it right
for you to keep jumping from one company to another.
Job change is a serious decision that requires a lot of
thinking and planning. Before you decide to find
another place of employment, why don’t you first try to
address whatever it is that’s actually making you want
to leave your company? You could also work with a
career coach just so you can get the guidance as you go
through this crucial stage in your career.
Should you choose not to invest in your skills and
personality
development, it will be
like letting yourself fly
without wings. In short,
you are setting yourself
up to fail. Although you
believe that people can
be stable enough in their careers even without making
any investment, you should realize that eventually,
competition gets the better of them and leave them
regretting that they didn’t take the time to make
themselves better.
If you want to stay away from a career disaster, then
planning is crucial. Also, you cannot keep hesitating
about investing in your career development because
this is the only way you can achieve your career goals.
To help you understand it more easily, here are the
good reasons you should invest in your career.
1. This is an investment where you cannot lose.
As we all know, any type of financial investment comes
with a possibility to fail and lose, but not this one. By
making yourself better professionally, you will gain
more opportunities in your career, you can stay away
from early and unexpected employment, and you can
go on changing careers without much trouble as well.
2. This can increase your market value.
Companies are continuously searching for individuals
who have the most complete sets of skills. If you
succeed in acquiring more skills related in your field,
your value also continues to increase. This means that
your current employer will never think about letting you
go and this could also mean that any other employer
out there could be keeping an eye on you.
3. You build your own future for yourself.
You are the only one responsible for how bright your
future will be. Every decision that you make right now
certainly has its effects on your future. And so investing
in your skills right now is a way for you to build a
brighter future for yourself.
4. This can help you prepare for future changes.
Nobody knows what job could give you the biggest
fulfillment. There is always a possibility that you will
wake up one day thinking of doing something more
exciting and more meaningful. In short, the thought of
changing jobs can strike you anytime, so you have to be
ready for it. The best thing you could do to make sure
that you are ready to make the shift any moment from
now is to equip yourself with the important transferable
skills. This way, you will always be ready to go if you
desire to.

  • 2. Do you know that confrontation and even conflict can be positive and beneficial for an organization at times? This, of course, doesn’t mean that you should cultivate conflict and misunderstanding in a workplace. It is always better to avoid and resolve conflicts in the soonest possible time. As an employee, you know that it isn’t a good idea to confront your supervisor. Doing so may jeopardize your chances of advancing in your job and could even cause you to lose it. And so, if you want to avoid the need of changing jobs because you had an argument with your boss, the best thing you can do is to work around whatever conflict you have. Here’s how you can do this: 1. Empathize with Your Boss. If you feel like confronting your boss, you should realize first that he looks at things not the same way as you do. Although he may obviously be wrong in this case, but you should still give him the benefit of the doubt. Psychologists explain that seeing things in another person’s perspective will help in taking control of your emotions. This will also make you think of a better approach to the situation. 2. Control Yourself. It is never right to let your emotions control your behavior or action. Rather than feeling mad about what your boss is saying, why not block his criticisms by actually agreeing with him? Remember that an impossible boss is not likely to stay long in an organization. But you have to make sure that the way you handled the conflict will him will leave you a good impression. 3. Don’t Point Fingers. In case your boss asks to talk to you, you should expect it to be a heated conversation. Nevertheless, there is no reason for you to accuse him of anything or blame him. It is a natural reaction of any individual to defend themselves when they are criticized or attacked. Make sure that you keep yourself calm and attentively listen to everything that he has to say. If there’s something you find confusing about what he’s saying, don’t hesitate to ask. Do not consider your conversation as confrontation. Think of it as a collaboration instead. As an employee, it is part of your job to be humble at times, especially in dealing with your boss. If you want to avoid having to consider an untimely job change, then you need to be open-minded enough to do what it takes to properly and professionally deal with your boss. You have spent so many hours, nights, and days trying to make yourself better in your job. Not only that, you have sacrificed time with your loved ones because you thought being seriously committed to your job is the ticket to a better and higher paying position. But then, nobody seems to notice you and appreciate the work that you do. So you decide it’s time to change careers. Although you feel you have all the reasons in the world to look for a different career to pursue, you still need to
  • 3. do a lot of thinking. Deciding hastily could put you in a very unfamiliar position with no professional network and enough experience. Changing careers is not as easy as changing a job. Before you submit your resignation letter, consider these solutions to the problems you are having in your current career. IF you don’t feel you fit in with the culture in the company… If you are having issues with your relationships with your coworkers, boss, or anyone you work with, then you may consider working in another place. Remember that you don’t necessarily have to get a different career if your main problem is your workplace. IF you are not given the recognition or appreciation you deserve… It’s nice to be recognized, of course, but if you are using this as your drive to work hard, there must be something wrong with your self esteem. You need to learn how to set goals that don’t depend on other people’s approval. IF you don’t feel enthusiastic about working anymore… If you find yourself yawning too often at your desk, then you should look for some projects to do on your own. You could ask around also to see if someone may need the skills that you have. It would be good for you also to challenge yourself to be more efficient in your own job. IF you feel there’s no way up in your company… It is always a good idea to acquire new skills and gain more knowledge. You can talk to your manager and ask what you could do to deserve a promotion in the future. If it means that you need to take training courses once again, then do so. If it seems like it’s dead end in your current job, this could be a good reason for you to consider changing jobs instead. Remember that wherever you go, your skills will remain your tool for career advancement. Moving from one company to another may seem like a good strategy for you to acquire different skills and more experience to include in your resume, but what you may not know is how disadvantageous this could also be for you and how it could affect your future employment. Uncertain Retirement Plan One of the biggest reasons you would want to stay in the same job for a long period of time is that it allows you to prepare better for your retirement. Those who frequently change jobs are unconsciously setting their contributions to their 401k and other retirement accounts to the lowest level. You perhaps don’t think of this as something significant right now because you are still employed, but you should think about how you are going to live in the future if you are to depend solely on retirement programs offered by the government. Lack of Stability and Commitment Employers do not always favor those who keep changing jobs because they seem like they are not committed to anything. If your resume shows how constantly you switch employment, you will be seen as someone who is unstable and uncertain of his or her life. More importantly, you should understand that employers want to hire people who can stay for a long time so that they could contribute to the company’s success. Always a Beginner If you constantly change jobs, you may never know how it feels to be a veteran in a company. You will be like a

And although your age tells that you are experienced and can be considered a senior, you will not receive that type of respect because you are always a newcomer to a workplace. Conclusion Indeed, there are many valid reasons why you would want or even need to go look for a different job. There is nothing wrong also if you want to look for a job that will make you happy. But this also doesn’t make it right for you to keep jumping from one company to another. Job change is a serious decision that requires a lot of thinking and planning. Before you decide to find another place of employment, why don’t you first try to address whatever it is that’s actually making you want to leave your company? You could also work with a career coach just so you can get the guidance as you go through this crucial stage in your career. Should you choose not to invest in your skills and personality development, it will be like letting yourself fly without wings. In short, you are setting yourself up to fail. Although you believe that people can be stable enough in their careers even without making any investment, you should realize that eventually, competition gets the better of them and leave them regretting that they didn’t take the time to make themselves better. If you want to stay away from a career disaster, then planning is crucial. Also, you cannot keep hesitating about investing in your career development because this is the only way you can achieve your career goals. To help you understand it more easily, here are the good reasons you should invest in your career. 1. This is an investment where you cannot lose. As we all know, any type of financial investment comes with a possibility to fail and lose, but not this one. By making yourself better professionally, you will gain more opportunities in your career, you can stay away from early and unexpected employment, and you can go on changing careers without much trouble as well. 2. This can increase your market value. Companies are continuously searching for individuals who have the most complete sets of skills. If you succeed in acquiring more skills related in your field, your value also continues to increase. This means that your current employer will never think about letting you go and this could also mean that any other employer out there could be keeping an eye on you. 3. You build your own future for yourself. You are the only one responsible for how bright your future will be. Every decision that you make right now certainly has its effects on your future. And so investing in your skills right now is a way for you to build a brighter future for yourself. 4. This can help you prepare for future changes. Nobody knows what job could give you the biggest fulfillment. There is always a possibility that you will wake up one day thinking of doing something more exciting and more meaningful. In short, the thought of changing jobs can strike you anytime, so you have to be ready for it. The best thing you could do to make sure that you are ready to make the shift any moment from now is to equip yourself with the important transferable skills. This way, you will always be ready to go if you desire to.
