14. Ramadan is a period of prayer, fasting, charity-giving and self-
accountability for Muslims. It is when the Holy Quran was sent down
from heaven, “a guidance unto men, a declaration of direction, and a
means of Salvation”.
During Ramadan, every part of the body must be restrained. The
tongue must be restrained from backbiting and gossip. Eyes looking at
unlawful things. Ears from listening to idle talk or obscene words.
The hand must not touch or take anything that does not belong to it.
Feet must refrain from going to sinful places. In such a way, every part
of the body observes the fast.
At the end of the day the fast is broken with prayer and a meal called
Iftar. In addition to the five daily prayers, during Ramadan Muslims
recite a special prayer called the Taraweeh. The length of this prayer
is usually 2-3 hours.
The 27th day of the month is called Laylat-al-Qadr (the Night of
Power). On this night Muhammad (peace be upon him) first received
the revelation of the Holy Quran.

One of the biggest festivals in Mumbai
Gokulashtami celebrates the birth of the Hindu trickster
god Krishna over 5,000 years ago. In his childhood days,
Krishna would mischievously steal butter and curd from
