1. MAKE IT WORK: How to
fight youth
unemployment
Team name: Harmonika
Country: Slovenia
School: University of Maribor
2. UNEMPLOYMENT
When we walk down the street we notice that every month there are
more and more people begging for money.
More and more people are asking for free meals.
More and more people need help from their country.
People barley make ends meet.
On the other hand, some people are doing well. A little too well for
Slovenian standards. Have you ever asked yourself where do they get the
money?!
How many of them have actually succeded with hard work?
3. When I heard about this project it really got me thinking. Is
it possible to actually learn something from this project and
make a change today for better tomorrow?
In this presentation, I will introduce my ideas to you. I
assume many of us, who are participating in this
competition have similar ideas.
It is interesting that everybody has something to say about
everything but nobody actually tries to change anything.
4. 1. STUDENTS‘ WORK
Students could represent maximum 5% of the workforce. They
wouldn‘t be allowed to do the same job as other employees – they
would just help them (like assistants). That‘s because students are not
responsible for the mistakes they make
Every student who would want to be hired, would have to deliver a
notice of regular class participation to students‘ office every month.
Otherwise he or she would loose his job. That notice would prevent
some students from lengthening their status and occupying the job that
someone else could take.
5. 2. YEARS OF SERVICE
I would shorten years of service to 30 years. With this I would
liberate jobs for younger people.
Young people would be a smaller expense for our country,
because they would belong to a lower salary grade.
The problem that may occur here is quite important, because
young people are less experienced. But that problem can be
solved.
Students would have more compulsory practice during college
years. During that they wouldn‘t be paid. This is a good way
for students to meet (possible) future employers and gain
more experience. Those students who would work hard would
be able to use this kind of networking to get a steady job after
graduation.
6. 3. SUPERVISING GROUP
This group would be working under the patronage of the
country‘s government. It‘s work would be supervizing
activities and work of managers, bussines heads, CEOs,
executives, politicians... In a nutshell, the work of any
person on leading/important positions would be
supervised.
For every proven offense or violation of rules a licence
would be taken from that offender.
In that way people would take their job more seriously and
wouldn‘t steal from the company. Consequently less
companies would go bankrupt and the productivity would
be higher
7. 4. CHANGES IN THE STRUCTURES OF
THE COMPANIES
I would reduce the number of managers and people on high
positions.
With the money that I would save on their salaries, I would open
new opening positions in the company.
With more workforce the productivity of the companies would
raise, so I could lower the prices of the companies servicies or
products.
The company would sell more, earn more and consequently
employ more workforce or raise the salaries of workers.
Because workers would have more money to spend, they would
spend it. Consequently the money would circulate.
BUT! Employers could have only 10% of people employed as contract
workers.

good money with their farms, so
they would be able to hire help.
And again, new jobs would be
available.
