2. Svadhisthana
Svadhisthana relates to our experiences as an emotional being. Like the
movement from earth to water, the texture of experience changes from
solid and fixed to fluid and dynamic as we move from Muladhara to
Svadhisthana. Our emotions, sexuality, sense of self-worth and creativity
are related to this center. The task of Svadhisthana is to experience
pleasure with self and others. Much of our vitality, creativity, and passion
finds its root in this chakra. This stage of psycho-energetic development
parallels Erikson's second stage of human development in which the
fundamental task is to discover a sense of self-worth.
The fundamental question needing to be answered is: “Am I okay?”.
3. Svadhisthana
Traumas which affect this center include any form of sexual abuse,
authoritarian parenting which prohibits emotional expression, neglect,
invalidation or mockery from peers, lack of boundaries from parents,
religious or moral severity, and enmeshment. If this leads to an
excessive condition, the individual may be prone to hysteria and
dramatic mood swings, sexual promiscuity, setting poor boundaries,
hypersensitivity, continuous crises, hyperactivity and enmeshment.
In a deficient condition the individual may exhibit excessive shyness,
lack of sexual drive, desire and vitality, poor emotional intelligence,
fear of sex, and a sense of worthlessness.
4. Svadhisthana
The transpersonal expression of
Svadhisthana is seen in the great
works of art, music, and dance. It is
when creativity no longer serves only
the self but rings with universal or
archetypal truth. Lust is no longer a
fire that leads to unsatiated desire,
but feeds into a passion for life, a
joyous enthusiasm to fulfill one’s
highest potential.
5. Svadhisthana Affirmation: I allow myself to feel and
experience all of my emotions. I release ideas
that are no longer useful.
