Community Pharmacy:
A community pharmacy is a pharmacy that deals directly with people in the
local area. It has responsibilities including compounding, counseling,
checking and dispensing of prescription drugs to the patients with care,
accuracy, and legality. Community pharmacy means any place under the
direct supervision of a pharmacist where the practice of pharmacy occurs or
where prescription orders are compounded and dispensed other than a
hospital pharmacy or a limited service pharmacy.
CHAIN PHARMACY:
Organization, where two or more pharmacies were operating under the
same name and the business used distinctive branding across all pharmacies.
Pharmacy we visited:
Dvago, Chain pharmacy. We visited different branches of Davago.
DVAGO Pharmacy & Wellness Experts is a modern pharmacy concept where
medicine is sold following the best international standards.
LICENSE OF PHARMACY:
The pharmacy we visited holds category a license. class a pharmacy means a
pharmacy which has a pharmacy permit with a pharmacist on duty at least
forty (40) hours per week, and no unsatisfactory deficiency and no more
than three non-compliant deficiencies noted on its last board inspection.
License should be kept at prominent and visible place.
Pharmacist in the pharmacy:
We visited the pharmacy and we observe that there were
pharmacist with coworkers. Every branch have different number
of pharmacist according to the need. Some have 2, 3 or 1.
we need pharmacist because pharmacists help people live
healthier, better lives. pharmacists use their medication
expertise to treat patients, collaborate with other health care
professionals, promote population health, and manage
pharmacy systems.
Cleanliness aspects of pharmacy:
They do not keep any medicine on the counter, they daily clean our shelves.
1- Food beverages are not allowed in pharmacy .
2- They clean shelf properly on daily basis .
3- Smoking is not allowed in the Pharmacy.
4- They maintain the proper air ventilation system.
5- Spacious for customers.
Cleaning and sanitation of premises and equipment are essential to efforts
to prevent contamination of product, and they need to be done in
compliance with good manufacturing practice (GMP) regulatory
requirements.
Checking of prescription dates:
They check prescription date and they do not dispense any
medicine if prescription is older than 6 months. They take these
measure to prevent drug abuse and miss use of drugs.
 The date is part of the legal document confirming when the
prescription was written. Pharmacists are often presented
prescriptions with dates that are well past the prescribing date.
Some patients elect to save prescriptions for future use.
Patient counseling regarding drug and its interaction:
They provide proper guidance to the patient. They also council the patients
regarding drugs. If patient is taking iron supplements we make sure to tell them
iron in the morning and calcium in the night.
 Effective patient counseling makes the patient understand his/her illness,
necessary lifestyle modifications and pharmacotherapy in a better way and thus
enhance patient compliance. The pharmacist has immense responsibility in
counseling the patients with chronic illness.
Narcotics drugs
They sell narcotic drugs & they don't sell narcotics without prescription.
and they also have a license for those. Illegal way of drugs selling is prohibited.
 Sale of controlled drugs without prescription is a burning issue in
developing countries like Pakistan. Illicit sale practices lead towards drug
abuse and misuse among youngsters and negatively impact the health of
youth and economy of any country.
 Sales men at pharmacies/drugs stores were interviewed and then their
statements were cross verified by sending fake customers at their
community pharmacies to check the extent of illicit sale practices by them.
Prescription Records:
As we visited various branches of Davago, Out of 3 pharmacies, one keep data for
approx 2-3 months where other two pharmacies keep prescription data at least
for 1 year.
 Pharmacists must mark prescriptions to show they have been dispensed.
This must include the prescription reference number, the amount
dispensed, the date of dispensing and the name and address of the
pharmacy. Once all supplies and repeats authorized are fully dispensed,
prescriptions must be marked as cancelled.
 Your prescription record contains information about medicines you have
been prescribed by a healthcare provider. The record also provides details
about the healthcare provider who prescribed the medicine and the
healthcare provider organisation you visited.
Approach of Storage of Medicine in shelf:
In alphabetical order by which all the therapeutic medicines separate by its own.
They also consider the fact of FEFO (First Expiry First Out).
They keep those medicines far apart that have similar name but different effects.
 Arrange products with the earliest expiry date at the front of the shelves
and those with the latest at the back. This is essential to avoid drugs
expiring during storage.
Recheck medicines before packing them for customer :
They recheck medicine twice, first when they collect all medicines and second
according to bill, check size quantity and then pack. This is done so that patient
shouldn’t miss any medicine or to prevent any inconvenience to the patients.
Feedback services and patients complains:
They take customers feedback and if we receive any complain then we try to solve
it at branch level. They have a tab (gadget ) at the counter, after payment
costumer have access to give feedback.
 Customer feedback is the information, insights, issues, and input shared by
your community about their experiences with your company, product, or
services. This feedback guides improvements of the customer experience
and can empower positive change in any business — even (and especially)
when it's negative.
Inventory control methods:
Inventory control involves various techniques for monitoring how stocks move in
a warehouse. Four popular inventory control methods include ABC analysis; Last
In, First Out (LIFO) and First In, First Out (FIFO); batch tracking; and safety stock.
 Inventory Management will enable pharmacy retailers to:
A narrow inventory leads to improved stock management, lower warehouse
costs and reduced purchase costs which leads to better cash flow and also
minimizes the possibility of goods expiring or becoming harder to sell.
Storage of Stock Medicines:
They have proper stock room for storage. That room is sterilized, temperature
controlled and maintain all aspects of storage for medicines to prevent
degradation of medicines.
 Always be proactive.
 Keep communication lines open.
 Have a vertical storage system.
 Don't overstock. ...
 Involve the whole team. ...
 Do regular inventory checks.
 Plan ahead.
Know that heat, air, light, and moisture may damage your medicine. Store
your medicines in a cool, dry place.
Duration to discard expired or
nearly expire drugs:
They return medicine back to the
company at least 3 months before the
expiry date. This is done to prevent intake
of expire medicines, or to prevent miss use
of expiry medicines.
 The best way to dispose of most types* of
unused or expired medicines (both
prescription and over the counter) is to drop
off the medicine at a drug take back site,
location, or program immediately.
Records of medicine stock available or patients
prescription or Purchasing history:
They only keep records in their computer using retail Pro software & EHR
(electronic health record), they don't keep manual records. They have record of
each tablet present in every branch. To facilitate customers.
 Brands grow with Retail Pro. Retail Pro saves you time and money by
streamlining POS, inventory management, customer experience, and more.
THANKYOU
