4. What is electronic publishing?
• Creation, distribution and sharing of digital content through a variety
of electronic media (web, CD-ROM, disk).
• The dissemination of traditional paper information through new
technologies that use computers and certain programs to print,
distribute and disseminate information, and it can include all forms of
information sources.
Processing, storing and distributing information in its various forms
using computers and remote communication technologies

5. Objectives
of electronic publishing
1 – Providing advanced electronic forms for texts and various
vessels.
2 – Solve a large part of the financial problems of libraries..
3 – Increased demand for materials and other non-traditional
sources of information.
4 – Providing current and up-to-date information and making it
widely available.
5 – Overcoming the problems of inflated intellectual production of
published information, which are difficult to control by traditional
methods.
6. Objectives of electronic
publishing
6 – Digitization of information is the transformation of sources
from the traditional form to the digital form that allows them to be
stored, modified electronically and retrieval
7– Providing storage spaces that were occupied by traditional
sources in their printed forms such as books, periodicals ,
pamphlets , references…..etc.
8– Contribute to the development and implementation of
sufficient and acceptable standards on a regular basis for the
exchange of services automatically between libraries and the
exchange of information
7. Electronic publishing forms
1 – Desktop Publishing:-
They are programs through which computers and various
laser printers are employed instead of traditional means.
2 – CD – Publishing:-
It is publishing based on databases stored on CD.
3 – Electronic Documents Delivery :-
Through this service, information and documents are
transferred from libraries and publishers to beneficiaries
electronically using e-mail, databases, online networks and
CDs.
4 – Online Databases
5 – Digitized Information Sources.

9. Electronic publishing fields
1 - Publishing scientific researchs so that students and
researchers can view it and obtain its extracts.
2 - Publishing working papers, lectures, and notes.
3 -Publishing books and academic references so that the
researcher does not need to purchase a specific reference
by mail or obtain a photocopy of it, but can be accessed
electronically.
4 - Publishing technical guides, which is one of the means
that enables the distribution of these guides quickly to
hundreds of individuals without bothering to benefit from
them in their fields of work.
5 - Support for print-on-demand systems
11. QR Code
(abbreviated from Quick Response Code)
Is the trademark for a type of matrix barcode (or two-
dimensional code) first designed for the automotive
industry. More recently, the system has become
popular outside the industry due to its fast readability
and large storage capacity compared to
standard UPC barcodes. The code consists of black
modules (square dots) arranged in a square pattern
on a white background. The information encoded can
be made up of four standardized kinds ("modes") of
data (numeric, alphanumeric, byte/binary, Kanji), or
through supported extensions, virtually any kind of
data.

12. ADvantages of e- Publishing
A- Speed ,Easily searchable
1. Rapid communication between the participants in the network and
communicate with each other.
2. Provide Capabilities make it easier for users to search and access
data and information required directly and very quickly.
3. Searchability is one of the core advantages of a digital format, its
easier to find research, the fewer duplicated experiments there will be,
resulting in less wasted time.
12
13. ADVANTAGES OF E- PUBLISHING
B-Interactive:
The rapid turnaround time means that articles can be read,
commented on by the journal's readers, and amended much
more quickly than can be done with print. The ease with which
e-mail can be sent, or forms filled in means that there can be
much greater feedback through the Web.
13
14. C-Lower costs of review, change and added :
1.It is easy to conduct audits and their modifications (add or
delete) the material published electronically, and get the
updated version for publication without significant
cost.
2. Electronic publishing has removed much of the cost
and risk involved in print publishing.
14
ADVANTAGES OF E- PUBLISHING
15. D-Accessibility:
1 - Electronic publishing are accessible to all users regardless
of geographic location.
2 - Electronic publishing reduces the use of paper and this
means maintaining the trees, which are usually cut off and
turned into papers.
15
ADVANTAGES OF E- PUBLISHING
16. E- Links ,added value
1. Links are the mainstay of the hypertext format, and
should be exploited.
2 - advantage should be taken of all the possibilities of the
Web to add value, for example by using animation, virtual
reality and interactive mathematical charts .
16
ADVANTAGES OF E- PUBLISHING
17. G-Save Time & Storage :
1. More information can be stored electronically than on paper and e-
Published material can be sent across the globe in a few seconds.
2. The actual time it takes for a book to get published is much faster than
in traditional publication.
3. Storage in itself is a great advantage to this form of publishing.
Unlimited space on the internet makes it easy for everyone to maintain
files. Plus, since most e-publications are sent via PDF files.
17
ADVANTAGES OF E- PUBLISHING
18. Disadvantages of e- publishing
1-Theft of literary and scientific:
The existence of this vast amount of information on the
Internet makes it easy to carry out piracy and robbery.
2-Comfort:
the print paper can be read in any place and on any
position relaxes the reader but the book published
electronically can not benefit from it but only the
existence the computer.
The main disadvantages of digital information are the
limitations of the computer monitor.
19. Disadvantages of e- publishing
3-Format:
•
E-publishing initially required readers to have certain software for
e-books.
20. The difference between traditionalpublishing
and electronic publishing
وااللكتروني التقليدي النشر بين الفرق
Traditional publishing
• – Information during it grows
and develops slowly,it may take
months or even years.
– The difficulty of modifying and
updating the content of the
sources , especially after
publishing them.
Electronic publishing
• – The possibility of rapid
production of a large number of
electronic documents.
• – The ability to modify , update
materials and sources even
after they are published
electronicauy.
21. The difference between traditional
publishing and electronic publishing
Electronic publishing
– Access to information is fast and
immediate,butits effective use faces
difficulties due to its abundance.
– Digital vessels consist of
multimedia and electronic resources
that are scattered and unknown,but
are accessed using portals or search
engines.
•
Traditional publishing
•
– Accessing the content of
traditional sources and benefiting
from them is relatively slow.
– It includes textual and print
information repositories and traditional
sources,and indirectly available
materials are defined by bibliographies
and index.
.
22. The difference between traditional
publishing and electronic publishing
Electronic publishing
-The published information
may be subject to tampering,
misuse and exploitation.
- The possibility of rapid
distribution of documents
and anywhere in a short
time and without restrictions.
Traditional publishing
•
– The difficulty of exposing the
published information to
tampering, misuse, destruction
and exploitation.
The difficulty of handling and
transferring traditional sources, in
addition to the cost of shipping and
distribution, with barriers and
obstacles in implementation .
23. The difference between traditional
publishing and electronic publishing
Electronic Publishing
• – Information access points are
unlimited by default and are added to
the management of distributed
groups that are controlled in a
decentralized manner according to
each beneficiary.
