Introduction
1.1 Introduction
Information technology is considered to be a key factor influencing economic and
social development. Technology development evokes growing opportunities that
raise user demands and the need for innovation. Although the notion of smart wiring
is too widespread in many territories, over time, more and more systems are
emerging on market that complements this industry. Innovative technologies for
managing households and buildings are causing replacing conventional wiring with
smart installations.

Intelligent installations combine technological progress, economic operation and
unify building technologies, creating an efficient and user-friendly environment that
takes user needs into account, and efficiently and economically manages the entire
system. Creating such a functional system is financially more demanding, but offers
more flexibility, return and prospects for the future. The smart home concept has
been well researched and developed in past years and emerged as an ultimate notion
referring to all aspects of human life, which is smart living [1], [2]. Smart home is an
important space among the other smart spaces due to the fact that big share of their
lives people spend at home.
Building automation is a rapidly growing branch of electronics in recent years. This
is due to the wide range of devices available on the market, as well as their low
prices. In addition to systems dedicated to controlling smart buildings. In this project,
two systems of smart systems KNX, and Raspberry Pi were used in order to obtain
complete. Integration of control and monitoring between the home and the workplace
in the event of anything happening. [3]

Introduction
Automated control is an essential property of smart home technology
implementations. Basic control functions, such as control of heating, ventilation, air
conditioning, lighting and other systems may be integrated to Building Automation
System (BAS). The purpose of BASs is to improve comfort, security and efficient
energy management. Building automation is an excellent example of a distributed
control system, where the main part consists of a computer and a network of
electronic devices designed for tracking, control and security [4], [5].
1.2 Overview
In light of the spread of smart home systems, and if I have a factory and I want to
monitor this factory through my house, I need to install a smart system that works on
communication with the home system.
This paper describes an approach to use the embedded system Raspberry Pi to serve
as a communication gateway between mobile devices and Konnex-Bus (KNX) home
automation systems. The Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and the Presence Service
are used to build a system concept on open source and standardized software services.
The concept focuses on the communication, access control and security of that
gateway. This paper manifests the possible components and potential purposes of the
concept. It is shown that small embedded systems like the Pi can provide a simple and
cheap solution to enable ubiquitous Smart Home Control using existing
infrastructures.
In the accompanying figure, the general outline shows the main parts of the proposed
solution:

Introduction
1.3 Motivation
KNX is a communication protocol used in home and building automation. It allows
different devices, such as lighting, heating, and security systems, to be controlled and
monitored through a single platform. On the other hand, Raspberry Pi is a popular
single-board computer that can be used for a wide range of projects.
Connecting KNX with Raspberry Pi has several benefits:
1- Integration: By connecting KNX with Raspberry Pi, you can integrate different
home automation systems and devices that use other protocols such as Z-Wave,
Zigbee, and Wi-Fi.
2- Flexibility: Raspberry Pi provides flexibility in terms of programming and
customization, allowing you to create your own custom applications and interfaces for
controlling your KNX devices.
3- Monitoring: Raspberry Pi can be used to monitor and log data from your KNX
devices, providing insights into their usage and helping you optimize your energy
consumption.
4-Cost-effectiveness: Raspberry Pi is a cost-effective solution for home automation
and can be used as a central controller for KNX devices, reducing the need for
expensive proprietary controllers.
Overall, connecting KNX with Raspberry Pi provides a flexible and cost-effective
solution for home and building automation, allowing you to integrate different
systems and devices, create custom applications, and monitor and optimize your
energy consumption.
By connecting KNX with Raspberry Pi, users can integrate different home automation
systems and protocols, create custom applications and interfaces, and monitor and
optimize energy consumption. This provides a more personalized and cost-effective
solution for home automation, as users can create a system that suits their specific
needs and preferences.

1.4 Previous studies
Many studies have been done on the knx system The importance of its use has been
shown To the conservation of electrical energy away from the traditional systems in
which electrical energy is consumed.{6}
In another study by German engineers, it was shown to us the extent of security that
the knx system gives us in controlling so that it cannot be tampered with or the system
can be hacked because the devices are connected to each other in the system.{7}
This graph shows the importance of the knx system in controlling the amount of
energy consumed and saving energy significantly:

There is also a study conducted by Mosaic, which is a company specialized in
building technology, as it showed the importance of using the knx system in buildings
and projects, and they had difficulty operating air conditioning, refrigeration, heating,
and other things And they made a knx system that enables them to deal with these
difficulties easily.{8}

1.5 Objectives
1- The main goal of this work is to investigate a KNX-based home automation
system. Such technical systems can be remotely monitored and controlled. By the use
of KNX, technical data can be collected and made available at desired location.
Connecting the knx system with the raspberry pi system in order to exchange data
between the two systems to operate the surveillance camera and the security system
2-Applying the mechanism of recognizing people’s faces in protection systems, which
includes, in the event of a specific movement, or event sending data to the system.{9}
3-Customize the knx smartphone to update the result of the detection mechanism to
the user.
1.6 scopes
In this part, we must clarify the scope in which we will work in order to know how to
apply the two systems and reach what is required.
Where we will apply the two systems on a residential apartment with an area of 130
square meters, and we will work on electrical control of the architectural spaces
through smart systems.

Introduction
The apartment contains a bedroom, a hall, a living room, a kitchen and a bathroom
and guest room.
Where we will control the lighting, create lighting scenarios, and control the amount
of lighting in the corridors through sensors that send signals to the devices and control
the air conditioning and refrigeration units.
We will control the curtains and blinds, and we will connect a camera to send signals
to the raspberry to warn or to do something.
We will also control the apartment through a phone that is linked with smart systems,
and we will also work on setting up a screen for control.

  • 1. 12 Chapter1 Introduction 1.1 Introduction Information technology is considered to be a key factor influencing economic and social development. Technology development evokes growing opportunities that raise user demands and the need for innovation. Although the notion of smart wiring is too widespread in many territories, over time, more and more systems are emerging on market that complements this industry. Innovative technologies for managing households and buildings are causing replacing conventional wiring with smart installations. Fig1.1 project methodology Intelligent installations combine technological progress, economic operation and unify building technologies, creating an efficient and user-friendly environment that takes user needs into account, and efficiently and economically manages the entire system. Creating such a functional system is financially more demanding, but offers more flexibility, return and prospects for the future. The smart home concept has been well researched and developed in past years and emerged as an ultimate notion referring to all aspects of human life, which is smart living [1], [2]. Smart home is an important space among the other smart spaces due to the fact that big share of their lives people spend at home. Building automation is a rapidly growing branch of electronics in recent years. This is due to the wide range of devices available on the market, as well as their low prices. In addition to systems dedicated to controlling smart buildings. In this project, two systems of smart systems KNX, and Raspberry Pi were used in order to obtain complete. Integration of control and monitoring between the home and the workplace in the event of anything happening. [3]
  • 2. 13 Chapter1 Introduction Automated control is an essential property of smart home technology implementations. Basic control functions, such as control of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, lighting and other systems may be integrated to Building Automation System (BAS). The purpose of BASs is to improve comfort, security and efficient energy management. Building automation is an excellent example of a distributed control system, where the main part consists of a computer and a network of electronic devices designed for tracking, control and security [4], [5]. 1.2 Overview In light of the spread of smart home systems, and if I have a factory and I want to monitor this factory through my house, I need to install a smart system that works on communication with the home system. This paper describes an approach to use the embedded system Raspberry Pi to serve as a communication gateway between mobile devices and Konnex-Bus (KNX) home automation systems. The Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and the Presence Service are used to build a system concept on open source and standardized software services. The concept focuses on the communication, access control and security of that gateway. This paper manifests the possible components and potential purposes of the concept. It is shown that small embedded systems like the Pi can provide a simple and cheap solution to enable ubiquitous Smart Home Control using existing infrastructures. Overall, connecting KNX with Raspberry Pi provides a flexible and cost-effective solution for home and building automation, allowing you to integrate different systems and devices, create custom applications, and monitor and optimize your energy consumption. Connecting the knx system with the raspberry pi system in order to exchange data between the two systems to operate the surveillance camera and the security system 2-Applying the mechanism of recognizing people’s faces in protection systems, which includes, in the event of a specific movement, or event sending data to the system.{9} 3-Customize the knx smartphone to update the result of the detection mechanism to the user. 1.6 scopes In this part, we must clarify the scope in which we will work in order to know how to apply the two systems and reach what is required. Where we will apply the two systems on a residential apartment with an area of 130 square meters, and we will work on electrical control of the architectural spaces through smart systems. Where we will control the lighting, create lighting scenarios, and control the amount of lighting in the corridors through sensors that send signals to the devices and control the air conditioning and refrigeration units. We will control the curtains and blinds, and we will connect a camera to send signals to the raspberry to warn or to do something.
