Introduction Klang Valley is a rich source of architectural heritage dated from pre-colonial, colonial, post independence until present times. The historical richness creates a very vibrant architectural fabric. The modern architecture emerges rapidly from 1950’s to 1970’s as the economic growth spurs. This follows the international style that spreads across the world in 1930’s to 50’s. However, many historical modernistic buildings may face risk of being demolished to make way for more contemporary buildings. Thus, by recording, documenting and analysing the buildings, we can contribute to preserve the historical evidence of the valuable Modern Architecture in Klang Valley. The findings are to be compiled in essays and to be submitted using a web book platform. Web book is a publication in digital form, consisting of text (report), images, or both.
Learning Outcomes 1. Increase understanding on the principle, ideas and contributing factors of Modern Architecture in Klang Valley 2. Able to analyse and identify specific architectural features of Modern Architecture in Klang Valley
3. Able to document architectural heritage in the form of writings, descriptive diagrams and photography
4. Able to create a web book as a mean to publish academic materials

1) Report
A report should be written documenting the findings of the analysis. You may support the information using photos, sketches and diagrams as evidence. Cite your references. Avoid plagiarism. The report can be divided into:
 Introduction (Group Components)
 Introduction
 Fast facts of the building
o Building name, location, function etc ( may provide map & photos)
 History of the building ( cite your reference )
 The Architect
 Main Paragraph (Individual Components) consisting of Architectural style and construction analysis of the building
 Architecture style analysis
o Explain the specific style adopted and the characteristics of the style. Is it pure modern buildings as in the west or has local influence? Identify and explain further if it has local influence.

Each building may have different components. Analyse the significant components and use photos or sketches as evidence.
 Conclusion (Group Components)
Students are expected to distribute the main paragraph accordingly and equally among all members. This is to ensure each student have similar emphasis for individual assessment. Students are also advised to check the flow of the essay together even though they are individually written.
The length of the overall essay should be around 3000 words. Font type: Calibri, Font size: 12, Spacing: 1.5
2) Layout Design
After completing the report, you may design your layout according to your creativity. Choose appropriate colour and font for the heading. However, the layout design should reflect the spirit of modernism, simple and without unnecessary ornamentation. You may use Photoshop or other desktop publishing tools. Use A4 size with landscape orientation.

Examples of layout design
3) Compilation of Web Book
Save each pages either as pdf or jpg files and compile them in the web book creator such as Flipping Book Publisher. You may choose the free trial version of web book creator. You may also choose other tools preferred.
The book should contain creative and impressive cover page, linkable table of contents and the subsequent reports. You also need to add additional hyperlinks to suitable references and resources that may enhance understanding of certain topic.
Upload your web book in wikispace ArchitectureCH2. Choose Web Book project. The students need to give the email address in order to be invited in the group before able to upload the project.
