We are a child-advocacy ministry pairing
compassionate people with children living in extreme
poverty to release the children from spiritual, economic,
social, and physical poverty.
It’s a mission that drives us because the need is
desperate. Ten percent of the world lives on $1.90 a
day or less. Our hearts break for the millions of children
who suffer from lack of resources, but we rejoice
because there is hope.
We at Compassion know that the transformative power
of Christ’s love is not bound by nationality or economic
status. Unified by this conviction, our increasingly
diverse staff uses our talents and experience to serve
more than two million children in 25 countries.
Who We Are
2021
W E A R E L E D , A N D S E R V E , F R O M A D E E P S E N S E O F C A L L I N G
13. 13
For more than 65 years we have worked to develop children
into all God intends them to be. We are advocates for children,
working to release them from the shackles of poverty. Through
a holistic approach to child development, we carefully blend
physical, social, economic and spiritual care together…in
Jesus' name. It is an approach that has been scientifically
proven to be effective.
On average, a child we minister to spends 4,000 hours in
safe, nurturing programs, is at least 50 percent more
likely to graduate college and is 35 percent more likely to
find white-collar employment as an adult.
Our response to a world in need filled with millions of children
living in poverty is simple: Love like Jesus did. Serve in Jesus'
name.
Children are particularly vulnerable to the physical threats of
poverty as well as its emotional and spiritual messages of
worthlessness. By working in Jesus' name we speak
messages of love and hope.
What We Do
2021
S E R V I N G I N J E S U S ’ N A M E
14. 14
We do all of our work through partnerships with thousands of
local churches in 25 countries around the world.
Local churches are catalysts for community change,
optimizing the mutual respect, resources and common
purpose critical in caring for children in poverty.
We work in partnership with local churches because we desire
to equip the Church to fulfill its role as salt and light to the
world.
A local church is best suited to address the needs of the
children in its community because the church is already
located in and involved in the community. Only the local
church can effectively deliver the Jesus-based teaching and
whole-life care that children in poverty deserve.
It is our honor to walk alongside local churches as they share
the love of Jesus in their neighborhoods. We trust the
Church's ability to create an environment of unparalleled
stability where children experience God's love and acceptance
in tangible ways.
