This document discusses how museums can establish meaningful cloud services to preserve, curate, and provide education about their collections. It describes how the cloud approach allows museums to host collection management tools, educational tools, and educational portals using only an internet connection. Two case studies are presented: an educational pathway authoring tool hosted in the cloud, and an educational portal for a natural history museum set up over the cloud. Cost comparisons show hosting in the cloud can be more cost effective than maintaining physical servers. The cloud approach provides opportunities for collaboration between museums by sharing educational content and tools.
