An Introduction to B Corp
Certification
WHAT IS IT?
Certified B Corporations
(B Corps) are businesses
that meet the highest
standards of verified
social and environmental
performance, public
transparency, and legal
accountability to balance
profit and purpose.
These are businesses that are leading the
way in changing our economic system
to positively impact all stakeholders —
workers, communities, customers, and our
planet — not just shareholders.
B Corp Certification is managed and
awarded by the nonprofit B Lab. To be
eligible for Certification, a company must
be a for-profit entity and have at least one
year of operations. To maintain Certified
status, a company must re-certify every
3 years and pay the annual Certification
fee. B Lab measures not only the positive
impact of a company’s operations but also
assesses its potential negative risks. Our
community includes over 4,000 B Corps in
over 75 countries and over 150 industries,
ranging from single-person small
businesses to large public multinationals.
