2. What is your educational background?
- Graduated from Albert Gallatin, went to California University of PA in 1973 and
graduated in 1977, obtained masters from Cal U also, got administration and letter of
eligibility from West Virginia University, and a sociality from Pittsburgh University.
3. How long have you been a superintendent?
- This is his 2nd year
4. What other positions have you had in this company?
- Acting supervisor for 4 years due to health concerns of the past superintendent,
principle at elementary and high school, and supervisor of attendance and personnel
program.
5. What skills do you think are important for management?
- The overall mission process is improving the situation to the best of his ability. The
toughest part is not getting the materials, but getting more productivity out of Human
Resources. It is more difficult to handle staff because they can talk back.
6. What is your management style?
- Educate district to the best of his ability. Believes in a Hierarchy of commands board
of education delegates him, he delegates the central office, the delegate the principles,
the principles delegate the teachers. Minimize mistakes and move on, everyone is
accountable.

- Looks for cleanliness of the buildings, test scores of the students, performance of
students and staff, and overall just accesses all the data available to him.

- About 400 in the whole district between the teachers, lunch staff, secretaries, nurses,
counselors, principles, and bus drivers.
9. How many programs/schools are in your company?
- There are many programs, but 10 different school buildings in all: Six elementary
schools, two middle schools, one high school, and one alternative school.
10. How do you determine the operating budget?
- The budget has been cut recently. It is determined by Governor Corbett. Has to be
very frugal and calculate all purchases, personnel, and fiscal.

- He wants to leave it a better place than when he arrived, not that it was bad when he
arrived. Improve test scores and graduation rate, keep kids out of prison.

- Children and adolescents, employees, board of education
13. What are some of the biggest challenges or threats you face?
- The 3 million dollars budget reduction which leads to reducing the staff and number
of teachers which then increasing the class size, area is not wealthy, and prison rates.

- Research by using Google as an example, staff meetings, address concerns, his
experience helps, has to make tough decisions that are not always popular. Main thing
is collaborating.

16. How do you motivate your staff?
- Has “face-to-face” discussions about performance, yearly evaluations on about 30
items where he is very frank about what they did well and bad, gives feedback and
addresses when there needs to be improvement. Strongly believes in a chain of
command most of the time. Therefore, if there is a problem with a teacher, the
principle should handle it unless it goes all the way up to him. Everyone has their
own responsibilities.

- Interview process is a snap shot, looks at past experience, work ethic, background
checks, learning achievements, and makes sure they are the “right fit” for Albert
Gallatin. Hiring the wrong person can really set them back.

- Keep that smile, work hard, handle situations, perseverance, develop your own
learning style, be the best you can be, gain experience, read, and be professional.
