Memo should focus on keeping you cool and collected when the temperature rises, outside and on the
job. In addition to heat-related course announcements, we are also offering our fourth wave of no-cost

Updated Course Announcement: A219/B219 Heat Emergencies
Did you know that heat stroke kills several hundred patients every year? Heat challenges can occur while
working, during recreational activities, and even at rest for high risk patients that have compromised or
inadequate thermoregulation systems.
The objectives of this course are to:
 Explore causes of heat emergencies
 Identify patients at increased risk of heat emergencies
 Differentiate types of heat emergencies
 Understand techniques used to assess and treat heat emergencies
New Course Announcement: Water Supply
With drought conditions in much of the United States, have you reviewed your department’s water supply
SOPs, especially for drafting from ponds, lakes, and streams? Everything you need to know, from
calculating minimum water supplies for fire suppression activities to identifying a variety of pressurized,

A412/B412 Emergency Responder Rehab & F302 Rehab Operations
for Firefighters
Rehab is a place, an action, and an outcome. The goal of emergency operations rehab is to minimize
stress and heat-related illnesses/deaths with medical monitoring and rapid response, in addition to rest,
food, and fluid interventions. In this course, you will learn about the need for medical monitoring and
rehab, as well as common injuries sustained during emergency incidents and training events, plus the key
components of a rehab protocol.
The objectives of these courses are to:
 Understand the need for medical monitoring and rehabilitation during emergency operations and
training exercises
 Identify common injuries and their causes during emergency operations
 Assess emergency responders for illness or injury in the rehab area
