MTVs first video to be banned was Queen’s
1982 hit ‘ Body Language’. This was due to the
camera shots of skin and sweat and apparently
this made it unsuitable for the televisions as it
was teenagers who watch this TV programme
mainly.
But MTV did air Olivia Newton Johns 1981
music video ‘Physical’.This had multiple
images of bikinis that should be considered
unsuitable. As the music video ‘Girls on Film’ by
Duran Duran, that music video featured
women topless wrestling in mud.
1991 – Michael Jacksons ‘Black or White’ was banned
because it shows Michael Jackson touching himself and
therefore was a very controversial music video.
2000 – Robbie Williams ‘Rock DJ’ was banned
due to him stripping naked and then peeling his
skin off along with his muscles and the rest of
his organs. This was banned during the day
time in the UK and was not aired till 10pm. In
the Dominican Republic banned this video due
to allegations of Satanism.
1980s - The Sex Pistols' video for
"God Savethe Queen" was banned
by the BBC for calling the United
Kingdom a fascist regime.
2010 - Thirty Seconds to Mars video
"Hurricane" was censored because of its major
elements of violence, nudity and sex .The short
film was later released with a clean version
that can air on television.
Rihanna's video "S&M",which
features a person whipping a
tied-up man, taking and then
indulging in a lesbian kiss.This
was banned in 11 countries and
was flagged as inappropriate for
viewers that are under 18 on
