The boy was given a telescope as a birthday gift by his father. When he looked through it at the night sky, he saw stars that were very bright and striking. He asked his father about what he was seeing, and was told they were stars and the moon. Fascinated, the next day he asked his grandfather to tell him a story about the stars. His grandfather told him a folk tale about a time of famine, when hunters encountered a rare white bear but could not catch it. After a week, they finally killed the bear, at which point it transformed into streams of light in the sky and each hunter became a star.
