Introduction
School of Civil And Environmental Engineering
What does a
Civil Engineer do?
Deal with the design, construction, and
maintenance of built environment like
roads, bridges, and buildings
Improve quality of life by providing shelters,
clean water, & sanitation systems

Building Information Modelling
Building Information Modelling (BIM)
helps to facilitate the linking of all
information from inception till as-built
submission. With the advent of
“Cloud BIM”, the capabilities of BIM
have increased exponentially.
Now, the push is towards integrating
the information to different stages
and linking them across stages for
more efficient and productive
construction.

The new facility, together with the existing NEWater
plants, will produce enough water to meet about half of
Singapore's current water demand, which stands at 430
million gallons per day. That is an increase from about 40
per cent now.
"To meet growing water demand and cope with climate
change impacts, we continue to augment our water supply
with weather resilient sources, namely NEWater and
desalinated water," said PUB.

When fully completed in 2040, the mega port will be the world's
largest fully automated terminal, boasting features such as
automated wharf and yard functions, and full-electric automated
guided vehicles, port operator PSA said on Thursday (Oct 3).
According to the MPA, the maritime industry contributes about 7
per cent of Singapore's gross domestic product, and employs
about 170,000 people.

INTAKE SCREENS
Seawater is drawn into
the plant through a huge
water pipe.
SCREENING
Seawater undergoes a two-stage
mechanical filtration to remove
coarse and fine particles.
ULTRAFILTRATION
The clarified seawater passes through semi-
permeable membranes to remove impurities,
microorganism and bacteria of smaller sizes.
DISSOLVED AIR FLOATATION
Chemicals are added to agglomerate impurities
into bigger particles, and fine air bubbles are
pumped in to float these particles to the surface
for easy removal as part of the clarification process
REVERSE OSMOSIS UNIT
The pre-treated seawater is pumped at high-pressure
through these semi-permeable membranes to separate
dissolved solids. The same technology is used in the
NEWater process.
POST TREATMENT
The treated water is made
potable by adding chemicals
such as chlorine and fluoride,
similar to post treatment
processes at Waterworks.

Civil Engineering Year 4
NTU Civil Engineering (CE)'s separates the lab courses from the
actual courses and hence gives more time to cover the content
with the content courses, instead of skimming through it to cater
for an integrated lab session within those courses.
CE definitely has (sic) one of the highest post-graduation
employment rates because of the nature of civil works that are
rarely out of demand. This makes it very easy for graduates to find
a job in the civil engineering sector…
CE itself is a relatively manageable programme… students in CE
will have the time to pursue other CCAs

Civil engineering has become more than just mixing concrete and
digging up earth. Nowadays, civil engineering projects employ
robotics and modelling software…
Being a student in CEE does not mean that you would… be in a
construction firm after graduation. Some CEE students can also…
do design work to ensure the stability of their structures using
advanced calculation softwares (sic) and technology. Some students
can even major in urban planning and development.
Environmental engineering is becoming an increasingly important
and popular programme as the world begins to acknowledge the
environmental problems caused by past generations and are
preparing for future issues.
Another factor that makes each university's ENE department unique
is the tenured professors. In NTU, our professors are well-known in
their respective fields, be it membrane technology or green building
materials, so students are able to receive good mentorship and
guidance should they wish to explore different subjects.

continuously empower all undergraduates to be the leaders of tomorrow.
I had a vibrant undergraduate experience in NTU CEE, with opportunities

One can enjoy a balance of study and fun without compromising either in
NTU CEE. I can confidently say that the education and environment in CEE
certainly possess the abilities to prepare undergraduates to pursue their
dreams in the engineering industry.

The NTU maritime studies programme is designed to equip
students with the relevant knowledge to join the dynamic and
global maritime industry. Opportunities are aplenty at every turn
as awards and scholarships are offered throughout all four years
of the programme.
On top of the normal CCAs, maritime students can also consider
joining the Maritime Business Society as a committee member or
even as an EXCO to meet real industry players and plan out
events for their fellow course mates.
Upon graduation, there is a wide-range of career prospective to
choose from, ranging from commercial to technical.

Sofian Civil Engineering Year4 NTU Civil Engineering (CE)'s separates the lab courses from the actual courses and hence gives more time to cover the content with the content courses, instead of skimming through it to cater for an integrated lab session within those courses. CE definitely has (sic) one of the highest post-graduation employment rates because of the nature of civil works that are rarely out of demand. This makes it very easy for graduates to find a job in the civil engineering sector… CE itself is a relatively manageable programme… students in CE will have the time to pursue other CCAs School of Civil And Environmental Engineering

Bryan Goh Civil EngineeringAlumni (Class of 2020) Design Engineer @ GCE Consulting Engineers http://think.seniorsays.sg/my-experience-in-civil-environmental-engineering/ Civil engineering has become more than just mixing concrete and digging up earth. Nowadays, civil engineering projects employ robotics and modelling software… Being a student in CEE does not mean that you would… be in a construction firm after graduation. Some CEE students can also… do design work to ensure the stability of their structures using advanced calculation softwares (sic) and technology. Some students can even major in urban planning and development.

Environmental engineering isbecoming an increasingly important and popular programme as the world begins to acknowledge the environmental problems caused by past generations and are preparing for future issues. Another factor that makes each university's ENE department unique is the tenured professors. In NTU, our professors are well-known in their respective fields, be it membrane technology or green building materials, so students are able to receive good mentorship and guidance should they wish to explore different subjects. School of Civiland Environmental Engineering (CEE) has enabled us to discover our hidden potentials and to develop known existing strengths. The comprehensive and dynamic curriculum offered by CEE have continuously empower all undergraduates to be the leaders of tomorrow. I had a vibrant undergraduate experience in NTU CEE, with opportunities to participate in conferences and representing NTU in competitions. One can enjoy a balance of study and fun without compromising either in NTU CEE. I can confidently say that the education and environment in CEE certainly possess the abilities to prepare undergraduates to pursue their dreams in the engineering industry. Michelle Yeo Maritime StudiesYear 4 The NTU maritime studies programme is designed to equip students with the relevant knowledge to join the dynamic and global maritime industry. Opportunities are aplenty at every turn as awards and scholarships are offered throughout all four years of the programme. On top of the normal CCAs, maritime students can also consider joining the Maritime Business Society as a committee member or even as an EXCO to meet real industry players and plan out events for their fellow course mates. Upon graduation, there is a wide-range of career prospective to choose from, ranging from commercial to technical. School of Civil And Environmental Engineering
