Important points to note when planning a
   firm’s IS
    ◦ Top management must accept IT as an
      important resource for overall organisational
      activities
    ◦ Use of IS in the organisation must be planned
      like other complex resources are planned
    ◦ IT is a resource owned by all in the firm, not just
      the IT Department
    ◦ Top management must recognise IS as a
      resource to achieve strategic goals, not merely
      as support for problem solving.

       • Increasing quality and effectiveness of daily tasks
       • E.g. calculation of wages and allowances

       Procedure rationale

       • Work automation changes many of previously manual procedures

       Business process restructuring

       • Processes need to be re-analysed, simplified and redesigned/restructured to suit
         the use of IS
       • Possibility of combining together several activities to save time & cost as well as
         increase productivity & quality

       Paradigm shift

       • Business and establishment aims need to be reconsidered
       • E.g. front-desk services accessible online, such as check-ins, reservations, etc.
