The document examines several Catholic doctrines and compares them to teachings in the Bible. It finds that Catholic beliefs about the Pope, Mary, salvation through Scripture alone, infant baptism, praying to saints, and who can be called saints do not align with what is taught in the Bible. The document encourages readers to test all religious teachings against the word of God and to identify as Christians alone, rather than Catholics, as that is the name followers of Christ were first called in the Bible.
BLC Sermon - That awkward moment when you realize Jesus called you and I - 20...Leigh Wong
Sermon based on Lectionary readings for the 3rd Sunday in Epiphany: Isaiah 9:1-4; 1 Corinthians 1:10-18; and Matthew 4:12-23.
The main idea was to explore the epiphany of how God has selected us to be His emissaries/ambassadors and what that means for us as a community of faith.

This is a continuation of the study of Jesus as the source of all our blessings. So many have written on this subject that it could not be contained in one book.
This is a study of Jesus as the source of revelation. He had revelation from the Father and He passed it on to the Holy Spirit who in turn passed it on to the Apostles. Revelation of all truth came through the working of the Trinity and is given to us through the Bible.
In this paper I examine the evangelical task of proclaiming the Christian kerygma in the modern world. First, I contextualize proclamation within the overall task of witnessing to the Gospel. Next, I show how the early Christian kerygma was shaped by the apostles according to their particular audience. Following this, I look broadly at the modern American audience and suggest some important points of emphasis and de-emphasis in our shaping of kerygma for them. Finally, I suggest a method for sharing the Good News that begins to integrate the results of this discussion.
This is a study of Jesus being the mystery of the Gospel. It was hidden for all of history but Jesus made it known and it united the Jews and Gentiles in one body.

This is a study of Jesus as the source of grace and enrichment. He enriched the Corinthians in everyway-with all kinds of speech and with all knowledge. They abused their gifts, but the gifts were of great value in their potential to glorify God.

The Book of Joshua is the sixth book in the Hebrew Bible and the Old Testament, and is the first book of the Deuteronomistic history, the story of Israel from the conquest of Canaan to the Babylonian exile.
In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

3. 1 John 4:1...
“Beloved, do not believe every
spirit, but test the spirits,
whether they are of God;
because many false prophets
have gone out into the world.
4. Jeremiah 14:14...
“14And the Lord said to me, “The prophets prophesy lies in My
name. I have not sent them, commanded them, nor spoken to them;
they prophesy to you a false vision, divination, a worthless thing,
and the deceit of their heart.
Jeremiah 23:32...
“32“Behold, I am against those who prophesy false dreams,” says
the Lord, “and tell them, and cause My people to err by their lies
and by their recklessness. Yet I did not send them or command
them; therefore they shall not profit this people at all,” says the
Lord.
Isaiah 30:10...
“Who say to the seers, “Do not see,” And to the prophets, “Do not
prophesy to us right things; Speak to us smooth things, prophesy
deceits.

The Catholic book, by Martin J. Scott says on p. 49, "The
pope, therefore, as vicar of Christ, is the visible head of
Christ's kingdom on earth, the Church, of which Christ
Himself is the invisible head."
THE
POPE? CHRIST
6. The book Father Smith Instructs Jackson, by
John F. Noll and Lester J. Fallon, on page 42
says, "According to the will of Christ, all its
members profess the same faith, have the
same worship and Sacraments, and are
united under the one and same visible head,
the Pope."
Matthew 28:20... “18And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All
authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
Matthew 16:16... “18“And I also say to you that you are Peter, and
on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not
prevail against it.
7. The Catholic Catechism For Adults on page 52 says, "Can
you learn to save your soul just by reading the Bible? No,
because certain things in the Bible can be misunderstood,
and because the Bible does not have everything God
taught."
REALLY?
8. 2 Timothy 3:16-17... “16All Scripture is given by
inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine,
for reproof, for correction, for instruction in
righteousness, 17that the man of God may be
complete, thoroughly equipped for every good
work.
2 Timothy 3:14... “15and that from childhood you
have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to
make you wise for salvation through faith which is
in Christ Jesus.
John 5:39... “39“You search the Scriptures, for in
them you think you have eternal life; and these are
they which testify of Me.
9. 1 Timothy 2:5...
“5For there is one God and one
Mediator between God and men, the
Man Christ Jesus,
10. Hebrews 8:6... “6But now He has obtained a
more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also
Mediator of a better covenant, which was
established on better promises.
Hebrews 9:15... “15And for this reason He is the
Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death,
for the redemption of the transgressions under the
first covenant, that those who are called may receive
the promise of the eternal inheritance.
Hebrews 12:24... “24to Jesus the Mediator of the
new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that
speaks better things than that of Abel.
11. Mary was never a mediator and she never thought
of herself that way. The Catholics want to put Mary
in a position that she doesn’t desire.
Luke1:46,47
“46And Mary said: “My
soul magnifies the Lord,
47And my spirit has
rejoiced in God my Savior.
Mary was in needMary was in need
of a SAVIOR!of a SAVIOR!
12. FACT: Catholics regularly
bow down to idols, icons and
images of Jesus, Mary and
the apostles, kissing the feet
of the statues and praying to
them.
13. Doing this is an open contradiction to the 2nd
commandment.
Exodus 20:4... “4“You shall not make for yourself a carved
image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above,
or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under
the earth;
John 4:24... “24“God is Spirit, and those who worship
Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
Isaiah 42:17-18... “They shall be turned back, They shall
be greatly ashamed, Who trust in carved images, Who say
to the molded images, ‘You are our gods.’18“Hear, you
deaf; And look, you blind, that you may see.
14. FACT: The Catholic church baptizes babies
by sprinkling a little water on them.
15. According to the Bible, baptism is immersion,
submersion or to plunge. For Catholics, it simply
means to sprinkle. The Bible word BAPTIDZO
means to submerge, to plunge, to dip. Sprinkling is
never mentioned in the Bible.
16. FACT: Catholics say that
babies inherit their parent's sin
atat conception and are therefore
spiritually condemned and
totally wicked.
17.
18. FACT: Catholics pray repetitive words
with Rosary Beads that were first
invented in 1090 AD, by "Peter the
Hermit" and made popular by St.
Dominic in 1208 AD. Catholics believe
that Mary appeared to St. Dominic in
1208 AD, at the church of Prouille and
revealed the Rosary Beads to him.
Catholics pray 15 sets of 10 consecutive
"hail Marys" in a row (150 times), in the
Rosary.
19. 1 Timothy 2:1... “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications,
prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men,
1 Thessalonians 5:17.. “17pray without ceasing,
Luke 11:1-3.. “Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a
certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to
Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.”
2So He said to them, “When you pray, say: Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
20. Please: Maybe this doesn’t sound serious to many,
but we need to be careful to not glorify any man
here on earth.
22. FACT: The Pope says only very special dead Catholic people
qualify to be called "saints". For example, Pope John Paul II
could not make Mother Teresa a saint (official canonization)
until after she was dead. The average Catholic in the pew is
never called a "saint" dead or alive!
23. We do not believe in that. According to the
Bible, every person that has obeyed Jesus
is a saintsaint.
26. The name Catholic apostolic and Roman is not the
name that the bible commands for the church. We
are not commanded to be called Catholics but
Christians. We are not Catholics but Christians.
Acts 11:26... “26And when he had found him, he
brought him to Antioch. So it was that for a whole
year they assembled with the church and taught a
great many people. And the disciples were first
called Christians in Antioch.
Acts 26:28... “28Then Agrippa said to Paul, “You
almost persuade me to become a Christian.”
1 Peter 4:16... “16Yet if anyone suffers as a
Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him
glorify God in this matter.
Catholic or Christians?
27. We areWe are the church, the “called out”,
“the body” who by obedience to the
gospel belongs to Christ, first called
“Christians” at Antioch therefore,
church of Christ is how we identify
ourselves. Eph 1:23;5:23; Acts 2:47
There is an eternal difference.
What will you believe?
