Start By:
a. Remove the pump drive. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Pump Drive - Remove".

1. With torque converter housing (3) placed on suitable cribbing, attach Tooling (A) to torque converter
housing (3). The weight of torque converter housing (3) is approximately 104 kg (230 lb).
2. Support bearing cage assembly (2) with suitable cribbing, allowing access to bolts (1). Remove bolts
(1). Use a suitable lifting device to remove torque converter housing (3) and place on Tooling (B).

3. Remove retaining ring (4). Remove gear assembly (5).

be 0.10 to 0.20 mm (0.004 to 0.008 inch). Add or remove shims in order to obtain the correct end
play.

1. Replace all gaskets and check all seals for serviceability.
2. Install the transmission onto Tooling (A).
3. Note the location of the transmission wiring harness and any associated brackets and set to the side.

4. Remove bolts (1), the washers, and the clips. Mark the location of the clips.
5. Remove torque converter housing (2) and the gasket. Discard the gasket.

6. Remove bolts (3) and the washers. Remove pump (4).
7. Inspect the pump for any wear or damage. Refer to "Reuse and Salvage Guidelines" , (CX38 Transmission Pump
Inspection Guideline) for the correct inspection procedure.
Note: Failure to inspect the pump may result in future pump failure.
