The document summarizes the history and evolution of catapult technology from ancient times. It describes how early tension catapults used bending wood or animal horns as power sources, while later torsion catapults relied on tightly coiled ropes to hurl projectiles. Traction trebuchets introduced levers for quick operation and accuracy. The most advanced gravity trebuchets generated power from very heavy falling weights to launch projectiles over even greater distances.
This document summarizes a student project to design and build a functioning catapult prototype called Catapult Crossfire. It involved applying the design techniques learned in their ME 371 lecture course. Several methods were used in the design process, including hand sketches, calculations, and CAD software. NX CAD specifically aided in determining linkage angles and optimizing the design. The project also required selecting appropriate materials and using tools like a lathe, mill, and drill press to construct the physical prototype. Key components of the design included a four-bar linkage, overdrive gear setup, and cam mechanism. Equations from the lecture course informed the theoretical design.
Effects of High Speeds on Tire Couplings_15Jul14 CFCharles Ferriera
This document discusses the effects of high speeds on tire couplings. It explains that as speed increases, centrifugal force causes the elastomeric tire element to expand radially and compress axially. This axial compression increases thrust forces on attached equipment and reduces equipment life. It also notes that high speeds can cause resonance vibrations that damage the coupling over time. The document analyzes how the distance between coupling flanges decreases with increasing speed due to radial expansion of the tire. It concludes that compensating for deformation through flange spacing adjustment and reinforcing the tire toe with a bead can help address issues caused by high speed centrifugal forces and vibrations.
This document discusses various sensors and transducers. It defines a transducer as a device that converts one form of energy to another, and a sensor as a transducer that detects a characteristic of its environment. It then provides details on different types of transducers and sensors, including antennas, Hall effect sensors, cathode ray tubes, sensors for ionizing radiation, electric current sensors, and proximity sensors. For each it discusses their definition, operating principle, applications and examples. The document is authored by several students and provides a comprehensive overview of key sensors and transducers.
The document discusses sensors and their use in museums. It begins by defining sensors as miniature devices that capture sensory data like heat, light, and humidity in response to external stimuli. It then outlines how sensors could enhance museum experiences by enabling ubiquitous computing, planned activities, and new interactive paradigms. The rest of the document details sensor frameworks, various sensor types, their properties, and how they could transform user experiences in museums.
Aircraft turbine blades and expected advancement in technology using carbon n...ijsrd.com
Gas turbines are of prime importance to aircrafts. The turbo machinery is a complex aspect of designing. Efficiency of turbo machinery is closely proportional to material selection and its performance. Each section of a turbo machinery deserves or has a different criteria of temperature dependency. As per this dependency turbine blades, nozzles and wheels are designed using different types of materials- alloys, which are highly resistant to temperature and light weight. This will lead to aircrafts which are very light and highly efficient. These materials are alloys which are very costly. And this high cost are making them difficult to be used abundantly. All these problems has made researchers to look around for material which is light, comparatively cheap and highly efficient as per turbine needs. This paper throws light on the existing materials used in turbine blades and a new compound which is a carbon allotrope which is capable of meeting all above needs perfectly.
In this lab data was collected from (18) separate tap points along an airfoil within a subsonic wind tunnel generating winds at 70 miles per hour. In addition, this data was gathered for (4) different angles of attack.
The purpose of this lab was to calculate the pressure coefficient at each of those tap points. Our calculated results for the lab were compared to that of a manual that was provided for this experiment.

The document discusses exploratory dynamic modeling of a nuclear-powered Brayton cycle system for a proposed Jupiter Icy Moons Orbiter (JIMO) mission. System integration is challenging because component models are often incompatible and simplified models must be used. The modeling effort used steady-state design data from reports on a 50MW reactor and 500kWe Brayton power conversion unit. A dynamic fuel pin model was coupled to a Brayton unit model based on equations from another report. Preliminary simulations showed an unintuitive reactor power increase when load decreased, consistent with other work, indicating a reactor control system would be needed. Further system integration work is still required for the JIMO project.
1) The document discusses two projects involving particle image velocimetry (PIV) - an analysis of fluid flow through a 90 degree pipe bend, and an identification of trailing-edge noise in buffet flows using high-speed PIV.
2) For the pipe bend project, PIV was used to capture images of fluid flow at different rates, showing dual vortices known as Dean Vortices. As flow rate increased, velocity in the upper right corner also increased while vortical structure diminished.
3) For the buffet flow project, high-speed stereo PIV was used to investigate shock oscillations on a supercritical airfoil. Trailing edge turbulent eddies were suspected of generating

This document summarizes experiments performed on NACA 4412 airfoils in Cal Poly's low speed wind tunnel. Three experiments were conducted: 1) force balance tests on two finite wings to determine coefficients, 2) pressure measurements on a full-span wing to calculate coefficients, and 3) wake rake tests to determine total drag coefficient. The force balance showed lift coefficient increasing pre-stall and dropping post-stall. Pressure data matched theoretical predictions and a NASA study. Lift was found to increase with angle of attack. The NACA 4412 performed best at low angles of attack, suited for a cruiser aircraft.
This document contains data points that define the profile of a NACA four-digit airfoil, including its maximum camber, position of maximum camber, thickness, and coordinates for 25 data points each on the upper and lower surfaces. It notes that cosine values were used to generate evenly spaced x-coordinates along the chord and explains that changing the number of data points would require manually adding or removing rows.

Naca 2415 finding lift coefficient using cfd, theoretical and javafoileSAT Journals
Abstract In this paper we have studied the experimental characteristic graph of NACA 2415.The experimental graphs were taken from the book, “Theory of wing section” by IRA H. ABBOTT. We used these graphs for the validation of our results. Then we use CFD to simulate the experimental flow conditions and check the results and compare them with the experimental results. We meshed the airfoil in ICEM CFD so that the meshing is very precise. We then calculate the NACA 2415 airfoil’s lift at different angle of attack theoretically and using CFD analysis and compare them with the experimental values. We find the errors between experimental and CFD values as well as experimental and theoretical values. We used another simulation software called Javafoil and used it for comparison.
