and end of lifeThese are only examples of the possible areas to study.Students are to analyse
the literature as it relates to dementia and the subject area, alongwith the application to
your practice and the i mplications as a health professional.The assignment will need to
utilise the research literature in the area to formulate an essay.Please refer to the essay
guidelines provided. This is not a literature review but an essayusing the literature on a
subject area related to dementia. It should contain an introduction,body of work and a
conclusion and be appropriately referenced. This assignment is requiredto demonstrate an
understanding of evidence based practice in one aspect of dementia andthe links to
professional practice. The incorporation of other relevant materials and literaturewill
extend the student’ s learni ng and add depth to the assignment.Presentation of
Assignment 1The essay needs to be presented in academic style and be referenced. Ther e
should be aclear introduction, a substantive body of work in the area, and a conclusion
highlighting themain points found in the literature. It must include an electronic assignment
cover sheet,available on FLO and from the Student companion. The assignment must be in
size 12 fontin Times New Roman or Verdana typeface and single line-spaced. The

amAssignment 2 consists of a case study of a client or patient with dementia
and/ordeliriumand/or depression as a singular condition or as co-morbidities. The case
study is to bechosen by the student from their area of practice and please keep all
identifying detailsanonymous and use a pseudonym. A case study is provided for those
students who cannotdetermine an appropriate case study from their practice. A full
description and assessmentof the physical and psychosocial manifestations of the condition
2. must be developed andsupported by the literature, including:? brief history of how the case
has unfolded– issues identified– assessment undertaken? brief outline of pathophysiology?
any pharmacological treatments? psychosocial requirements? physical and psychosocial
support? environmental considerations? the support of significant others? future
planning.Students are to use the literature duly referenced to demonstrate evidence based
practice,assessment and management.Presentation of Assignment 2The case study needs to
be presented in academic style with due referencing. It mustinclude an electronic
assignment cover sheet. The assignment must be in size 12 font inTimes New Roman or
Verdana typeface and can be single line-spaced. The assignment isrequired to be submitted
by the due date. The case study will need to be presented usingthe literature as evidence of
your study around the particular needs of the client. Theapplication of the relevant
literature to the case study must form the majority of theassignment. All sources must be
referenced but any identifying features of the case studyare to remain anonymous to
maintain privacy and confidentiality. An introduction andconclusion to the assignment is
expected, as well as the reference list (entitled references).Appendices if used should be
referenced and are placed before the reference list.2Assignment 3—
FLO Discussion
participationMode of submission: Online through FLO as a word document with an
assignmentcover page.GradedWeighting: 10%Length: At least a 200 word posting by the
student from each of thethree modules.Due date: Monday of week 14 by 11.00 amStudents
will be required to choose three of their discussion postings (one from eachmodule) to
submit as assignment 3 and this will then be graded. As an external topic,students will be
expected to post answers posed in their Study plan in each of the threemodules. This will be
guided by the contents of the course and problem based learning andwill be monitored by
the topic coordinator. It is expected that students will engage on aweekly basis in the
discussion forum, however, this is flexible within the semesterrequirements. You are
encouraged to move ahead of the weekly work working at a fasterpace if you so wish.
Participation is expected on at least a fortnightly basis by each student.Weekly postings are
also an option and this is up to the student. Informal discussion,questioning and
commenting are also encouraged.There are three modules to this topic and students are to
choose one of their discussionpostings in each of the three modules to submit for
assessment. These ‘ best’ three posti ngsby each student are to be put into a word
document with an assignment cover sheet andsubmitted under assignment 3. These will
then be graded as to their depth and level ofreferencing to the literature, readings and/or
case studies. Feedback will be providedthroughout the semester in response to student
postings.Failure to submit and ExtensionsFailure to submit by the due date will incur a
penalty mark deduction of 5% per workingday. If there are extenuating circumstances for
an extension this must be applied for beforethe due date and an extension application
submitted through FLO.3
