Sheree, a cartoonist and professor, led a workshop where she encouraged children to draw pictures telling a story without words. She had them draw familiar things like people or animals and think about adding details to show if their character liked or disliked the rain. Sheree then arranged the children's drawings into panels to create a new collaborative story together using the progression of pictures. The workshop taught the children how cartoonists use illustrations instead of words to convey a narrative.

Overall, Hydras found the experience gave them valuable first-hand insights into how kindergarteners perceive monsters through interacting with and questioning the children.

Re-conceptualising the Espoo City Library Bus service for the children of Espoo, Finland in collaboration with LeGroup (Learning Environment Group), Department of Spatial Design, Aalto University and the City Library of Espoo. The bus aims to integrate new media technologies for exciting experiences. The project proposed five themes to revolutionise the library bus service. The bus is scheduled to start operating in 2013.

Cartooning with kids!
- 1. Cartooning with Kids! A workshop and visit from Sheree Cartoonist and professor at Algonquin College
- 2. TO START OFF She talked about the book Fun Boy by Ralph Consentino and how the book had no words. It’s up to the illustrator or cartoonist to let the reader know what’s happening through pictures. She asked the children a lot of questions to get them thinking about how pictures work.
- 3. SHE ENCOURAGED THE CHILDREN TO DRAW She had them draw something familiar.
- 4. PEOPLE AND ANIMALS They all decided to draw people or animals!
- 5. RAINY DAY Then she had the children think about what their picture wanted to say. It was a rainy day so they talked about whether or not their ‘character’ liked the rain. How would they show if the character liked the rain? The children decided the clue would be if the character was smiling or not – or if they had an umbrella!
- 6. MAGGIE’S PROGRESS Roll mouse over photo for video of Maggie’s progression drawing
- 7. DIFFERENT Some decided to do something entirely different, like draw SpongeBob or Yoda!
- 8. Story Panels The book Adventures in Cartooning by James Sturm, Alexis Frederick- Frost, and Andrew Arnold explains how panels get pictures to flow.
- 9. OUR STORY PANELS Sheree laid out all the children’s pictures in a progression. Cadence’s ‘Rainbow Dash’
- 10. A New Story So the children could use each story picture or panel to create a whole new story together.
