                      Worksheet for SLS Career Clusters Project

This project allows you to research your interests and values and occupations in order toselect an
educational major that best suits your personal interests and requirements.

Instructions for BC web:

On the main page click on the Career Center button at the top of the page
Under “Define yourself” click on Self-Assessment Process

On this page you will scroll down and see two assessment tools. You will be using the “focus” tool to
research your interests.




PART ONE


Scroll down and click on the “focus” logo                                       a new window will open.
As a first time user you will need to click on “create an account.” Once you havecompleted creating your
account you will need to type in the access code which is“WOLF.”

Once you have logged in, select “Work Interest Assessment”under “Self-Assessment” and complete
that assessment. After you have completed this assessment;SAVE YOUR RESULTS TO ATTACH TO YOUR
PAPER.

PART TWO

Return to the BC Career Center page, scroll down and select “Choices Planner” logo:


                      to open the page.

Under“Adults and Postsecondary” click on -“SIGN IN”next click on “JUMP IN ACCESS”

In the “Your Tools”— click on the Choices Plannerbox
Under the “Work” column — click on Work Values Sorter
Click on Start Ranking Your Values

When finished find “PRINT This” In the upper right corner and print the page with the results of your
“Work Values.”YOU MUST COPY AND PASTE YOUR RESULTS ANDATTACH TO YOUR PAPER.

Click on View Careers Matching Your Work Values and determine whetherany of these careers match
your preference (note this information for your report).
PART THREE

Click on the “Home” button within Choices Planner

Under the “Work” column - - click on more

Scroll down to “Find Careers By” and click on “Gold Star”

Select any career and research the categories on the left. Based on your research you will type a one-
page paper and answer these questions:

        “Is This For You?” What does a person do in this career and are you still interested in this field?
        Does this field match the results of your assessments?
        “What to Learn” What type of degree or certification do you need for this career?
        “Money & Outlook” What is the salary range for this career and the employment outlook? Is this
        what you expected?
        “Connections” Select at least one networking resource from this area and tell how it benefits
        your career choice.

                       INSTRUCTIONS for SLS Career Clusters Paper

Your paper should be typed or printed, double-spaced and no more than one to two pages. You will
write a paper addressing the following questions:

Opening paragraph
        What did you learn about yourself after completing the Choices “Work ValuesSorter” and
        FOCUS?
        Were you interested in any of the suggested careers that matched your assessments? If so,
        which ones? Did you research them? If not, why not?
Middle paragraph
        What occupation did you research from the “Gold Star” list?
            o Discuss your findings from the categories listed above
        Which of the web sites under “Connections” did you check out? What did you learn from this
        website?
Closing paragraph
        Based on what you have learned with this research what is your educational andcareer goal? 1-
        low did this research influence your decision?
        In what way did you find this project helpful? Did you find any surprises?

                                               FORMAT

First, you need a cover page including your name, date, SLS-1001, Career Project
Next you need to attach the body of your typed paper.
Third, you need to attach your results from the focus inventory and Choices values.
Your paper is worth 50 points and due at the beginning of class November 18, 2011
