This document summarizes a presentation given by Robiyanto Hendro Susanto, a professor of land and water management at Sriwijaya University, on rural and urban drainage needs in Indonesia's lowland areas. It discusses the distribution of lowlands in Indonesia, challenges around food security and environmental degradation, and objectives around conservation and development of lowlands to address climate change and ensure food security. It provides examples of integrated lowland development projects covering agriculture, aquaculture, forestry, housing and more. Constraints discussed include issues with data and information, misunderstandings around approaches, inappropriate site selection, land use changes, lack of coordination, and more.
