Monthly Payments: The magical $500.00 per month



Dealing With Negative Equity: Being able to “Roll Over Deficiencies”



Longer Finance Terms: The terms are inexorably getting longer.



Big Data: Manufacturers using big data to laser focus incentives.



Customers: Using the “incentives” to support the deficiencies.


“Which manufacturer has an incentive on a model that suits our requirements, that we can roll
over the trade, get a new vehicle, and keep on paying $500/month.”
Loan Terms

Loan terms above 72
months are increasing in
quantity and length on a
monthly basis so far this
year.
The year started at 57% at
the end of August its at
64% almost a 1% increase
per month.
How much longer it will
endure?
Obvious it takes more
months to hit the
$500/month sweet spot.

What do you think?

From JD Power
Days to Turn

With all the “deals” offered by
all the manufacturers.
Especially during the 3rd
quarter …the days to turn of
new vehicles have increased
steadily.
Yes…there is a difference
selling a new vehicle to a
dealer, and ultimately selling
it to a customer.
Has the game of “moving
iron” changed?
Agreed…the customer does
not care about “carrying
charges”

Subaru has the most significant increase (+21%) of the volume manufacturers;
agreed they carry on their business adhere to a concise strategy, do not resort to
aggressive incentives, probably make a ton of money, and fly under everyone’s
radar.

Canada…yes we told you so in January…The Love Affair Endures.

CPO sales although good, are impacted by the robustness of new vehicle

Volvo is perplexing…have wonder what is going on.
•

Incredible third quarter, and ahead by 3% for the year…strong.

•

There is a shift away from mid size sedans to CUV’s and small CUV’s.

•

Honda and Toyota are firing on all cylinders and making their presence felt, especially to the
Koreans.

•

Mercedes-Benz and BMW are “bumper to bumper” although they will never admit that they are
competing for the top spot.

•

Fiat and Mini are behind, there are only so many folks that want to pay a premium.

•

Think about this Hyundai+Kia are catching up to GM (168K vs 180K).

•

Yes…Hyundai is ahead of Honda YTD (110K vs 108K).

•

Why is Mazda “blinking”?

•

Fascinating to see who will “double down” and who will “blink” in the last quarter.
•

Thank You
