The Canadian flag features a red field with a white square in the center containing a stylized red 11-pointed maple leaf. Several flags were used in Canada before settling on this design in 1965, including the Union Jack and various versions of the Canadian Red Ensign incorporating the coat of arms. The current flag features the maple leaf as a long-used Canadian symbol and the red and white colors represent prosperity, hope, peace, and impartiality.
