Overbooking is a controversial practice where airlines sell more tickets than available seats in order to maximize profits. A survey of 86 respondents found a high level of agreement that overbooking can be positive for airlines' bottom lines but more research is needed into its effects on customers who are involuntarily denied boarding due to oversales.
