The document discusses the benefits of building an integrated campus to provide services for abused children and families. It would allow staff to have full resources, collaborate more easily, and provide better trauma care. Having colleagues in close proximity would improve staff support and care for families. The campus is described as an investment in prevention that would allow the organization to be responsive and adapt to changing needs and environments over time.

Improve Outcomes for Children in Foster Care by Reforming Congregate Care Pay...Public Consulting Group
In child welfare, there is growing emphasis on keeping children at home, and when that isn’t possible, placing them with relatives or in other family-like settings. Secure attachments to consistent caregivers are critical for the healthy development of children and youth, especially for very young children.Congregate care placements are also significantly costlier than traditional foster care or kinship care placements.

6. The cost to care for
abused children in
Arizona is $1.6 billion.
One-third of these costs
are associated with the
abused child’s
immediate needs, while
two-thirds are spent on
dealing with the long-
term effects of abuse.
An integrated campus is an
Investment in Prevention.
11. The only sure thing
is that things will continue to change…
There will continue to be
families who need support
We need to be nimble and
flexible as an organization
Resources, funding, policies
will change – need will not go
away
A comprehensive campus and
space will allow us to be
responsive, adapt quickly to
change
12. Why build in a poor economy?
Actually a good time to build – building is less
expensive right now
Major donors/primary prospects still have capacity to
make major gifts
Community feels very connected to Casa de los Niños
– they want to be involved
Need for child and family services grows
Editor's Notes
For 40 years Casa de los Niños has been a leader in preventing and treating child abuse and neglect in the Tucson area.
We are a leader for child welfare in this community. We are the first organization to be contacted about issues relating to the prevention and treatment of child abuse. We stand as a voice for children.
Trauma care is complicated and difficult work. Staff needs the full resources of this organization.
Child abuse and neglect does not affect just one child or one family. Its impact can be seen throughout our community, state, and nation in the added burden to our medical, social service, educational, and welfare systems. By advocating for proper funding and support for services that build strong families and children, we can lower the cost of dealing with the long-term effects of abuse. We need to strengthen our capacity to be the voice for advocacy.
Casa de los Niños offers a full continuum of high-quality care for the prevention, intervention and treatment of abuse and neglect. By focusing on the whole family, we help everyone become stronger, more resilient, and able to thrive. We advocate that every family be able to access such assistance when it is needed. An comprehensive campus will provide an integrated resource for children and families – and the team working with each family will have greater capacity and resources to work with people on the new campus.
Preventative health care is simpler and less costly than emergency care. The same is true for child abuse and neglect. Prevention takes far fewer resources than intervention and treatment. We work toward the day when no child knows abuse and neglect – so this misery is never again passed on to the next generation. We are Building for Future Generations.
It is priceless when children and their families heal, acquire new skills and become confident, caring individuals. Every day at Casa de los Niños we prevent suffering, help make lives whole, reunite families and empower everyone to flourish. Our vision and intent is much broader than just helping one family or child. We are here for the end game. An end to child abuse and neglect.
We are striving to create a better future for children and families in our community. Through parent education and support for families, Casa de los Niños is working to break the generation-to-generation cycle of abuse.
With the support of the Tucson community, Casa de los Niños will continue to be a voice for children, advocacy and change for another forty years—and beyond. Together we will work to change lives…for generations. This is our new positioning statement – “Changing Lives for Generations.” It conveys our broader vision and our long-term commitment to the community.
