- These questions are for debate – I don't have the answers and don't profess to know. Testing suggests an external and imposed systematic process. Assessment suggests that there is a much more continuous process and that the person being assessed is part of the process. Wikipedia says: “E-assessment can be used to assess cognitive and practical abilities. Cognitive abilities are assessed using e-testing software; practical abilities are assessed using e-portfolios or simulation software.”
- Assessment is still assessment and the fact that it's electronic doesn't change what it is trying to achieve. BUT perhaps it can achieve some things more easily. Existing technology is starting to include mobile devices Opportunities to do things that could not be done before.
- Opportunities such as: A new way of looking at assessment Could be delivered as needed (not as determined) Personalisation External factors (some): Connectivity Suitable hardware capable of running whatever software is needed
- Important to question if it is the “e” element that creates the opportunity for a re-think or if the re-think was necessary anyway Suspect that the whole nature and purpose of education along with the process and methodology (based on over 200 years of history) of delivery is dated anyway and new thinking about effective learning and the need to personalise learning is the key driver The “e” bit just facilitates it.
