Background on global/community issue
To compete and win in today’s economy and be ready to outsprint the competition when the
green shoots of recovery emerge, the full potential of your employees must be realised.
Employees need to willingly develop their careers in such a way that they pursue the
capability development that their employer needs to thrive and deliver increased value. The
study conducted by right management company draws on more than 28,000 responses from
15 countries representing 10 major industry sectors. This study has been supplemented with
key findings and insights from further research undertaken in Australia and New Zealand.
Thirty six key HR and business decision makers were interviewed from twenty eight
organisations. Those represented included two of the big four Australian banks, five
multinational organisations, major government departments and several iconic employers.
Our research highlights the value of including career development as a vital part of your
organisational strategy. The benefits include the continued development of employees in
competencies needed by your organisation to succeed and increased employee engagement
which is a key driver of productivity, retention and performance.
The world faces a huge challenge of creating productive jobs for its expanding labour force,
says a new study by three ILO economists. This challenge is global in three ways. First,
inadequate availability of productive jobs is now a worldwide phenomenon, affecting both
North and South. Second, global forces such as cross-border flows of trade, capital and
labour now have important consequences for employment in individual countries. Third,
international economic policies are now almost as important as national policies for
expanding opportunities for productive employment in less developed countries, where most
of the world’s workers live and where almost all of its new workers will live.
The state of the labour force in Tanzania shows that the majority of the able-bodied
population continues to be primarily under-employed. Most labour market analysis studies
have shown a persistent exclusion of the majority of the labour force from productive
activities of a dynamic and sustainable form, of the underdevelopment of rural and urban
non-formal economies, and of the inability of the formal economies to generate adequate
employment opportunities. There is a high level of underemployment amongst the youth,
with new entrants in the labour market estimated to be one million youths each year.
In Mtwara region with the expansion of oil and gas industry there is i need to do carrier
development and self employment this to enable the community to directly and indirectly
benefit from this industries that is to say to get direct employment to these (oil and gas)
industries or to get market for there (self -employed) products if the people around are self
employed.
Session plan and narrative
The community action day was organised into different sessions and different events took
place , to begin with the activity started at 2:00pm due to the delay of the audience who were
taking their lunch at the moment the event was scheduled to commence at 1:00pm. It started
with the Mundu arts giving out there first entertainment this was mainly for the purpose of
drawing the attention of audience to come close to the area of the event in order to start the
day activities.

After the Mundu arts entertainment students visited different tables for consultation and
short training on cv writing, interview skills, self employment skills business plan and how
to write the official letters not to forget the English speaking tips. There were basically three
tables, the first one dealt with business plan and self-employment, the students were given
skills on how they can become successful entrepreneurs without concentrating on looking for
white collar jobs which take to long to get also they were provided with the tips on how to
write a business plan . Sample business plan was written at the moment and later they were
distributed with a sample copy of a business plan

The second table comprised of CV writing and official latter writing, the students were led
through the session of writing CV and official letters and the reasons were given out of the
importance of each also the students were given copies of sample cv and official letters so
that they can have their reference as they practice at their own time.

The third table comprised of English speaking skills and interview skills, the English team
introduced the first VETA news later and one student from the English team gave out a
motivational skills to his fellow students not to feel shy when it comes to English speaking
and writing and should not shy away when they make mistakes also lessons were given on
the prefix ‘un’. tips on going to interview was also given at this point where the students
learnt on how to go for an interview if they are called upon after which there was a mock
interview presented on bad and god interviews preformed by both ukvs and incvs at different
times .

The Mundu group gave out their second presentation then PECAW group introduced
themselves and talked to students on the after school realities, short brief story on how and
why they started their enterprise, who sponsors them and also they welcome those who after
graduating who are interested to join PECAW.

There were session of prize giving where questions were asked and those who answered
correctly were given this comprised of both pens and exercise books which will enable them
to have more practice in English learning

Evaluation and feedback
The short training on carrier development an self employment acted as an eye opener to most
of the students who gave the immediate response I quote ‘this is very good news more that
on the business plan sir may I have appointment with you to learn into details’ end of quote.-
