Answer:
Introduction:
Selected organization is the “iCapital Network” and the headquarter of the company is
situated in New York. iCapital offer qualified investors access to a curated menu of different
strategies across the private equity life cycle. The company offers diverse advice to their
investors about the different markets such as: venture capital, growth equity, middle-
market buyout and secondaries market (icapitalnetwork.com, 2022). The company works
under the leadership of CEO. Lawrence Calcano. Previously, he used to work at Goldman,
Sachs & Co and he had spent 17 years over there. In the following years (2001, 2002, 2004,
2005 and 2006) he was name as a most influential person in venture capital
(icapitalnetwork.com, 2022).
Overview Of The CEO. Lawrence Calcano’s Leadership Style – Autocratic Leader
On the bases of the interview conducted by the Forbes magazine with CEO. Lawrence
Calcano, it can be figure out that he processes autocratic leadership style (Reiss, 2018). In
the interview of the Forbes magazine, CEO. Lawrence Calcano said about his leadership
style “Many things are needed for organizations to succeed. But great leaders always solve
for team, mission and culture: getting the right people in the right roles (team); with
everyone operating with complete clarity on what constitutes success (mission); and all
driving and reinforcing accepted values and behaviors (culture)” (Reiss, 2018). Now, on the
bases of this statement it can be evaluated that he sets the direction for his team members
and he tend to prefer for taking all the decision by himself.
Autocratic Leadership Style
It is important to understand that an autocratic leader process following key characteristics
such as: they permitted their team members for minimal input, they used to take all the key
decision, they focus towards creating highly structed or rigid environment, they focus on
establishing clear outline for the team members, etc. Now, it is important to understand that
autocratic leadership is highly effective when there is a situation to take quick decision-
making (Luqman, Fatima, Ahmed, Khalid & Bhatti, 2020). When a leader processes
autocratic leadership then they can take quick decision and it can speed-up the process
specifically in case of emergencies. On the other hand, democratic leaders tend to include
their team members into the decision-making process and they cannot take quick decisions
without the consult with their team members.
So, it can be evaluated that whenever the emergency situation arises then it is an
appropriate choice to take use of an autocratic leadership style because it effectively speed-
up the process of decision-making. Apart from this, there are certain benefits associated
with this leaderships style which are as follows: decisions can be made-up quickly,
productivity can be improve, autonomy is reduced, it incorporates a clear chain of
commands and organizational goals can be reached unambiguously through this leadership
style (Dyczkowska & Dyczkowski, 2018). Although, autocratic leader makes decision and
choices on the bases of their own beliefs rather then considering the perspective of the team
members. Sometimes, rigid rules can create team dis-satisfaction.

On the other hand, democratic leaders tend to include their team members into the decision-making process and they cannot take quick decisions without the consult with their team members. So, it can be evaluated that whenever the emergency situation arises then it is an appropriate choice to take use of an autocratic leadership style because it effectively speed- up the process of decision-making.
