LIGHTING
TYPES OF LIGHTING
AMBIENT LIGHTING
 Ambient lighting is also called general lighting, and it's the most basic of the
three types of lighting. It's the natural light from your windows, and
the lighting that substitutes for natural light. Among the fixtures that
provide ambient lighting are: Chandeliers and other ceiling fixtures

TASK LIGHTING
 Task lighting provides increased light for
specific tasks in a room that may already have some
ambient light. Task lighting is especially useful for
seeing small objects or objects of low contrast. For
example, a person who is Task lighting fixtures
include:Table lamps
 Task lighting fixtures include:Table lamps. ...
Pendant lights. Directed track or recessed lights
AESTHETIC LIGHTING
 Aesthetic lighting, a somewhat less subtle option,
is when the light fixture itself is used as an
attractive element. According to Fabiano, this type
of lighting is used to mark a specific area or
destination point.
ACCENT LIGHTING
 Accent lighting, also called highlighting, emphasizes
objects by focusing light directly on them. Accent
lighting is used inside and outside the home to feature
locations such
 These fixtures should be located close to the object
they illuminate. Avoid direct and reflected glare by
using proper mounting locations and aiming angles
and choosing fixtures that have baffles or shields to
prevent a view of the light source
TYPES OF FIXTURE LIGHTING
 As any student or employee knows, having the right amount of light at the
desk is imperative if you are going to be able to see what you are doing and
do a go job in your project.
 A desk lamp is a great way to get the focused light that you need so
that you can stay on task.
RECESSED LIGHT
Recessed lighting is installed directly inside a ceiling, wall, or other surface.
... Housing is the bulk of the fixture which is hidden within the wall or ceiling
and contains the electrical connections of the fixture.Trim is the decorative,
visible portion of the fixture and may include baffles, reflectors or shades
DESK LAMP
PENDANTS
 Pendant lights are lights that hang from a cable,
cord, or pipe from an attachment at a ceiling, ending
in a shade enclosing a light bulb that primarily
provides light in a downward direction khown as a
down light.
• Pendants are often located over a table or kitchen
island because they provide ambient or task lighting,
and usually have strong stylistic elements that bring
character to a space because they’re so visible.
WALL LAMP
 While these light fixtures may look similar to a sconce or
other wall light, they have one major benefit that will set
them apart from other types of light fixtures on the market,
and that’s that they will swing out or angle so that you can
easily adjust where the light will go.
 They are great to have by your bed so that you can read in
bed without having to have the ceiling light on, and they are
also ideal in a very small office if you don’t have room for a
floor lamp, but you still want to have enough light to see the
project you are working on.
CHANDELIEAR
 • In terms of general lighting, a chandelier is one of the
most breathtaking choices that are available on the market.
• When you opt for a chandelier in your home, you are
getting much more than simply a source of light – you are
getting a statement piece that is sure to attract a lot of
attention from visitors to your home. Because chandeliers
are available in so many sizes, styles, and out of so many
different materials, it is generally fairly easy to find one that
will look great in your space and provide you the visual
interest that you want from your lighting.
DIRECT LIGHT
 . • In the case of direct lighting, the light source shines
directly onto the object or surface to be illuminated.
There is no filtering installed, only strong direct lighting
 •We use this form of lighting particularly when
illuminating artwork or above the dining table, when
reading, etc.
 The most common forms of direct lighting are: built-in
spots and reading lights.
INDIECT LIGHT
 In the case of indirect lighting we use the surroundings to light
the room. As such, the ceiling and walls are secondary reflectors
which reflect light in the room.
 This means that objects beyond the direct beam of light are
illuminated as well. It is important to know that smoother
surfaces reflect more light than structured surfaces (for example,
walls with relief).
 Examples of indirect lighting are: wall lamps facing towards the
ceiling or free-standing lamps with a dimmer function.
