The Rila Monastery is the largest Eastern Orthodox monastery in Bulgaria, located in the Rila Mountains. Founded in the 10th century by Saint Ivan of Rila, it has historically been an important cultural and spiritual center supported by Bulgarian rulers. The rectangular complex covers an area of 8,800 square meters centered around a courtyard and main church. It houses important religious artifacts and icons.
