- K2 is helping more and more customers to succeed with the K2 platform and solve their real world business problems. K2 is growing %50 faster than our closest competitor. How are we doing this?
- Business is realising that in order to succeed they need to answer real business problems though business applications. The businesses that succeed will be those who become great at delivering applications effectively to help the business grow. There are three ways to deliver IT systems. Purchase a package (e.g. SAP), Custom build using code (.NET, Java and other variants) , Configure applications using newer generation technologies (smartforms and smartobjects). Most organisations have a mix of these delivery mechanisms. There is a significant demand in business for many many functions in the business to be “systemised” or delivered via software applications that replace existing inefficient manual mechanisms that exist today. (click) These applications will define they way that a company does business. For example are you customer complaints handled with a simple “form , print and reply” system or do you have an application that tracks inbound complaints, categorises them, notes how long you take to respond, tracks common complainers and surfaces this all in dashboards so that a company knows where it needs to improve. This is a single example of potentially hundreds of applications that businesses are demanding. When we look at how this need will be met “packaged” or “one size fits all” applications (e.g. SAP) will simply not meet this wide horizon of needs. Custom development is simply too expensive and time consuming. There is a significant and growing demand to deliver these applications and new generations technologies such as smartforms and smartobjects are a leading solution to this problem
- Application delivery needs to be relevant, fast and adaptable. As we noted on the previous slide your applications that define interactions with you customers (complaints, service, support, returns, booking, scheduling, sales), your suppliers (RFPs, discounting strategues, quality, shipping, lead times , stock, returns) and your employees (onboarding, assets, performance measurement, improvement, expenses, vacation) define your business. You either have applications that track and manage these aspects of your business in a meaningful way or you don’t. These applications are the “language” of your business and define how you operate every day.
- The demand for applications that reflect an increased change cycle in business is high The need to deliver apps at an ever increasing pace, across the enterprise is a real priority. We are left with the question of how to deliver these applications in such a way that they provide real business value fast, are dynamic, provide a rapid return on investment and have a low cost of ownership.
- The approach to building apps is changing, writing code takes time and is costly and the results are un-predictable and often hard, too expensive and hard to change and maintain. The current solution to delivering applications that are outside the core “transactional system of record” applications (SAP, Oracle) is custom code. We are learning that this is not an efficient way to deliver on this need. It’s expensive, maintenance is expensive, redundancy is an issue (technology continually moves on) and it simply takes too long to write custom applications for every need. Because these processes were paper-based, it was impossible to tell where the roadblocks were. "We had processes that would stall production lines if they weren't approved in a timely manner. And when I say timely, I mean within hours," said Jessica Wesener, Kimberly-Clark ITS Consultant. "We had a definite need for having a workflow or business process management system that crossed platform. We needed something that was not connected to, say, SharePoint or an SAP system, but something that brought data together from disparate systems into a single workflow tool.” To date, Kimberly Clark business analysts have rolled out close to 500 business applications managing everything from expense claims to supply chains.

Retailers who sell these cards and manufacturers who use them in their products often ask SanDisk for price discounts, so they can pass savings on to their customers, but SanDisk’s processes for authorizing pricing adjustments were manual and ad hoc. They were slow and difficult to manage, and lack of visibility into historical data made progress difficult.
