To regulate the pollution emitted by cars and two-wheeler s, the govt of India has put forth regulations referred to as Bharat Stage Emission Standards (BSES). The Central government has mandated that each one vehicle manufacturers, both two-wheelers and four-wheelers, should manufacture, sell and register only BS6 (BSVI) vehicles from 1 April 2020.

Currently , emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx), total hydrocarbon (THC), non-methane hydrocarbons (NMHC), carbon monoxide (CO) and particulate matter (PM) are regulated for most vehicle types, including cars, trucks (lorries), locomotives, tractors and similar machinery, barges, but excluding seagoing ships and aeroplanes. For each vehicle type, different standards apply. Compliance is determined by running the engine at a standardised test cycle. Non-compliant vehicles cannot be sold in the EU, but new standards do not apply to vehicles already on the roads. No use of specific technologies is mandated to meet the standards, though available technology is considered when setting the standards. New models introduced must meet current or planned standards, but minor lifecycle model revisions may continue to be of fered with pre-compliant engines.

Global Trends in Passenger Vehicle Fuel Economy Standards Drew Kodjak, Execut...FIA Foundation
"Nine (9) countries have adopted some form of fuel economy
standards with other countries with complementary policies
(e.g., feebates, labeling).
Three-quarters (75%) of the world’s fleet is currently under
some form of fuel economy standards
The longest lead time for any standards is now set at 2025
Europe and Japan are home to world’s most efficient fleets,
but the gap is narrowing
The pace of vehicle efficiency technology development is
accelerating (e.g., 6 speed transmissions, downsized
turbocharged engines, better tires, hybrids).
Consumer acceptance is widespread given the relatively
short payback period from 2 to 5 years.
Thus we find that to meet the GFEI goal of doubling new
passenger vehicle fuel economy by 2030, we will need all
countries to adopt some form of fuel economy standards."

Application of Quality Tools to Reduce Failure Identification in an Automotiv...IJAEMSJORNAL
Quality tools utilization is a reality in several industry segments, including automotive. Its adoption comes from the business needs of more robust and reliable process, promoting actions that reduce deviations and losses related to rework, through teamwork activities and easy visualization graphic tools that reach all operation levels. This case study found the effectiveness of quality tools application on an engine factory with the target to solve issues related to identification issue and increase process traceability through a Kaizen activity, where during a discussion were utilized some quality tools such as Pareto Analysis, Ishikawa diagram, 5 Whys, 5W1H and brainstorming. As results, it was possible to reach more than 50% evolution on the engines identification inconsistencies indicator. At the end of the study, it was found too additional benefits that came from a cross-functional team with several departments from the studied factory, such as paper waste reduction and simple automation tool application within logistic process, items that align the production process to the market demand of paperless concept application and increase the process automation level.

2. The story of vehicle emission controls began in India when mass emission norms were enforced
for the first time for petrol vehicles in 1991 and for diesel vehicles in 1992. Emission norms were
further tightened in 1996 with the compulsory fitment of catalytic converters in petrol cars.
Bharat Stage emission norms (equivalent to Euro norms for four-wheeled vehicles) were first
introduced in 2000. These norms specify the maximum permissible emission limit for carbon
monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HC), nitrous oxides (NOx) and particulate matter (PM).
While the application of a stricter emission norm may sound good, especially amidst the
mounting concerns over the ever-rising pollution levels in the country, there’s a lot more to it
than just that. Firstly, it takes years for automakers to develop a new kind of engine or to tweak
around with the current ones used in their vehicles.
Once the research and development are over, the task of setting up full-scale production
comes up. All of this comes at a cost that eventually makes the vehicle more expensive for the
end customer of the product and that can be a cause of concern for automakers given how
price-sensitive the Indian market is.
3. Learn without a career break with online classes available 24*7.
One can access the course at their own pace, but with the investment of 3-5 hours/week, it can
be finished within a month.
