Before creating and leading a choir,
learn to be the best singer possible

Free and Open Source Software distributions raise difficult problems both for distribution editors and system administrators. Distributions evolve rapidly by integrating new versions of software packages that are independently developed. System upgrades may proceed on different paths depending on the current state of a system and the available software packages, and system administrators are faced with choices of upgrade paths, and possibly with failing upgrades. Mancoosi develops mechanisms that provide for rollbacks of failed upgrade attempts, allowing the system administrator to revert the system to the state before the upgrade, and better algorithms and tools to plan upgrade paths based on various information sources about software packages and on optimization criteria. The consortium as a whole is entirely committed to the free software movement, and the project sets up virtuous cycles associating users, industry and researchers that will outlive the project itself. Mancoosi is a European research project in the 7th Research Framework Programme (FP7) of the European Commission, which has started February 1st, 2008, and has a duration of 3 years.

An edge gateway is an essential piece of infrastructure for large scale cloud based services. This presentation details the purpose, benefits and use cases for an edge gateway to provide security, traffic management and cloud cross region resiliency. How a gateway can be used to enhance continuous deployment, and help testing of new service versions and get service insights and more are discussed. Philosophical and architectural approaches to what belongs in a gateway vs what should be in services will be discussed. Real examples of how gateway services, built on top of Netflix's Open source project, Zuul, are used in front of nearly all of Netflix's consumer facing traffic will show how gateway infrastructure is used in real highly available, massive scale services.

Open Source is ubiquitous. Open Source is inevitable. But why would anyone even engage in Open Source? Does making money with it even work? Modern Open Source is not Richard Stallman's Open Source anymore. Now that even Microsoft is open sourcing .NET (and possibly: Windows?), we'll need to review our opinions about Open Source. Large corporations have engaged in commoditising their infrastructure software via Open Source in order to increase demand for their primary offerings: PaaS, SaaS, and IaaS. And with this new model in mind, we'll have a short look into whether it still makes sense for ISVs to engage in Open Source development, or if we should just enjoy the massive free ride.

To achieve this, applications can use non-blocking, event-driven manner that scale with a small number of threads with backpressure as a key ingredient. In Spring Framework 5, a new reactive stack is introduced, which includes Servlet/Reactive Streams bridge. Using this new capability it is possible to create reactive applications that can be deployed on Apache Tomcat or any Servlet 3.1 compatible containers. Diffuser les résultats de recherche ? Comment ? Nous aurons par la suite une présentation d’Aquitaine Science Transfert (http://ast-innovations.com/, http://www.satt.fr/). Cet organisme nous expliquera leurs métiers, leurs contraintes, et nous fera part de leurs conseils et bonnes pratiques afin de diffuser et préparer la valorisation de vos résultats de recherche dans de bonnes conditions et sans stress. Cette présentation sera axée sur la pratique avant tout! Elle abordera des cas de la vie courante propre à nos instituts. Cette session sera riche d'enseignement ! Aquitaine Science Transfert est l’interlocuteur des chercheurs pour la protection, la maturation et la valorisation de leurs résultats de recherche. Elle les accueille tout au long de l’année pour étudier leurs résultats de recherche, les aider à déclarer leurs inventions et définir une stratégie de protection et de valorisation. Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical Futures

The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
